Stop Scratching That Skin!

April 26th, 2008 by Administrator

Dry skin is uncomfortable and unsightly. Have you wondered what will help dry skin? Many people with dry skin find that ingredients in commercially available lotions are irritating to their delicate skin. They find themselves wondering about gentle products with natural ingredients. Could these be what will help dry skin? Here are some natural cures for extra dry skin.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe vera gel from the houseplant aloe vera is a soothing lotion for extra dry skin. This wonderful substance is antiseptic and antifungal as well as being able to cool hot dry skin. The houseplant is attractive and easy to grow, but the gel is also available in many skin lotions and creams. To use the gel directly from the plant, simply break off a leaf. You can squeeze a small amount of gel out of the broken end, or you can use a small knife to cut the outer skin of the leaf to access more of the gel. The gel does not go bad, so you can keep the unused part of the leaf around for future needs. Aloe vera has been studied in the laboratory. It has been found to contain ingredients that are known to stop pain and itching. It also prevents infection in cracked or raw dry skin. If you are buying a commercially prepared lotion, what will help dry skin is to choose one that has aloe vera gel listed as one of the first few ingredients. Many products are labeled as containing aloe vera, but really contain very little of it.

Marshmallow Herb:

The wild herb marshmallow (althea officinalis) and it’s cousin low mallow, (Malva neglecta) sometimes called “cheeses,” are natural cures for extra dry skin. A tea made from marshmallow root or leaf soaked in cold water (2 tablespoons of dry powdered root to 1 quart of water) overnight can be taken three times a day. The herb is mucilagenous, which means that the tea or poultice preparations made with it become slimy. This sliminess is what makes mucilagenous herbs dry skin solutions. It is healing and soothing on dry skin. Dip a cloth in the tea to apply to the dry skin directly. The powdered root of the marshmallow can be added to skin cream or water to make a soothing lotion for dry skin. It can be purchased in bulk from many health food stores.

Colloidal Oatmeal:

You can find other natural cures for extra dry skin at your health food store. Oatmeal is often used in home remedies for dry skin. Check labels and you will find that some of the natural dry skin solutions at the health food store also contain oatmeal. Colloidal oatmeal is oatmeal that has been ground into a powder so fine it will distribute itself in water. It is widely available under the brand name of Aveeno, among others. Try adding two cups of this colloidal oatmeal to a bathtub full of warm water for a soothing soak. People have been using oatmeal baths as natural cures for extra dry skin for over 4000 years. Some dry skin solutions have stood the test of time!

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil and other healthy oils can be added to the diet or rubbed onto the skin. Avocado and raw milk are also full of natural saturated fats that can be helpful to the skin. Satuated fats are usually regarded as unhealthy, but some nutritionists are saying that it’s the type of saturated fat that makes the difference. Coconut oil is mostly what they call medium-chain fatty acids, as compared to others that are short or long-chain. These are considered more healthful, but only if they are not hydrogenated. Hydrogenation is the process chemists use to turn a liquid oil into a solid one, as in turning soybean oil into margarine or shortening. It is well-known now that hydrogenated fats really should not be in our diets. They contain “trans fats” which are harmful. Some vegetable oils like coconut oil, are solid at room temperature, if the day is cool. But even if you don’t desire to add coconut oil to your diet, it still makes a good oil for dry skin.

Beefing up your “Love Muscle”!

April 25th, 2008 by Administrator

The PC muscle, or pubococcygeus, is the muscle that stretches from your tailbone to your pubic bone. A strong PC muscle will greatly improve your sex life, and the nerves in this muscle are responsible for most of the sexual feelings you have during intercourse. During intercourse, the muscle stretches and contracts stimulating the nerves and is what is women feel when their bodies tense up during an orgasm. Strengthening thismuscle will give you greater sensations during intercourse, and give you a better chance of having a more intense orgasm. Another tool for the PC muscle is the stronger it is the tighter the vagina is, and this tightness can help you grip your partners penis for greater pleasure for him. So how do we strengthen these muscles?
The most common method is Kegel Exercises, named after a gynecologist for treatment of patients that lost urine when they coughed or sneezed. Instead of surgery, Dr. Kegel determined that strengthening these muscles would also help in this condition, and he was right. However, what he learned about the muscle was that a stronger PC muscle also developed into increased sexual stimulations, that ultimately brought women to orgasm easier. In most cases, women were having orgasms for the first time after strengthening these muscles. And women with strong PC muscles become sexually aroused easier, lubricate faster, and have more intense orgasms. So lets get to telling you how to strengthen these muscles.
The best way to tell you how to correctly exercise this muscle is start urinating, and then try to stop. That muscle that you use to stop the flow of urine is your PC muscle. Once that you have learned what and where the muscle is, it is now time to exercise it. Without urinating this time, squeeze the muscle and hold for a couple of seconds, then release. Do a couple of sets of these twice a day. Once you get it up to where you can easily hold that position for 5 seconds and do about 300 contractions a day, this is a good indication that you have a strong PC muscle. However, you don’t want to weaken the muscle either, so it is recommended that you continue to exercise the muscles to keep them strong and tight.
Guys I didn’t forget about you either! Yes you too can do these exercises as well, of course it does something totally different in guys. Have you ever dreamed of lasting longer with your partner. Well this is the way to do. Doing Kegel Exercise will increase your staying power, and allow you to stop ejaculations during sex. A stronger PC muscle gives you greater sensations during sex, and increase your staying power, by allowing you to slow down your sexual excitement and delay ejaculations.
Don’t over do your Kegel exercises. Just like weight training, the muscles can get tired and sore. If this happens, take a break, and start again in a few days with a less stressful workout. Remember, controlling the PC muscles is a great way to enhance you and your partners lovemaking. When you both have mastered the art, then and only then will both of you have a more fulfilling sex life.

Lowering Cholesterol For Busy People

April 12th, 2008 by Administrator

Cholesterol Dictatorship

Don’t you have enough this brainwash? You should…
You must be frustrated to hear over and over what you
should or what you shouldn’t eat, like you don’t know yet…
But you do know very well, and if you still have problems
with high Cholesterol… you are not alone.

You are bombard with the advice on nutrition, but one
thing is left out which makes that advice obsolete…

Food is not the answer for most people!

Food is either: synthetic or over processed,
over pesticides and over radiated - in short - building
materials are missing…

The Secret Is Out

Our population is hunted by high Cholesterol including
small children thanks to the same foods, which are
so glorified.

How anyone can consider food as reliable nutrition source,
where the meat and the poultry are treated with hormones?

I found it almost ironic that so many experts keep sending
message that you can keep Cholesterol low just on nearly
empty diet. Please… don’t consider isolated synthetic Vitamins
and Minerals a healthy solution. It is not, and never will be.

In reality, not many people can afford to shop in the Health
Food Stores, so they are relaying on the food chain industry.

The trust is wrongly placed…

Over processed food is difficult to digest, and as the result fat
is more difficult to utilize, and the consequences are devastating:
Heart Disease, High Cholesterol, Diabetics and Strokes are
the results what food can do…

So… what is the solution?
I like to tell you about wonderful solution to this problem later
but first, regardless how high or how low is your Cholesterol level
one thing is certain…
Prevention is the key to longevity.

Yes, yes there are zillions of products on the market but…
You are still hoping for something better and you should…

Fat paranoia… again and again you are told to avoid fats just
to keep Cholesterol normal but… it is not the fat it is your liver
that should be processing fats and if your liver is congested,
it won’t happen. And don’t forget about the sugar… You don’t
want to miss this info…

Avoiding bad fats it is always a good choice but sometimes
it is difficult so… what you can do? You need nutrients to
utilize those good fats and bad fats even when you sleep.

Your peace of mind is priceless…

And the best part is that you don’t need 100 different
supplements to get better, you need only one and the guessing
is not involved.

Low LDL (bad Cholesterol) it is not enough to keep you away
from Heart Disease. Know your Risk Factor first, and discover
breakthrough details on Self-Healing and how to
wakeup the Doctor within you…

Banishing Hannibal Lecter Personalities From Your Life

March 28th, 2008 by Administrator

We all know them. We all have somebody like them at our workplace. Some of us have them as our neighbor. Some are related to them. Gosh - some poor souls even live with them. So who are these people I speak of?

What I am talking about are the Hannibal Lecters of society. Toxic people.

Toxic people enjoy telling you every reason why you can’t or shouldn’t do something. Tell them an idea and they will tell you it’s no good. They hope that you won’t achieve more than they can and really don’t want you to succeed. They whine, they complain, they spread rumors, they are prone to ugly moods - a thundercloud follows their every move. They are the doomsayers. I’ll bet you already have someone like this in mind as you read these very words.

Unlike the Hannibal Lecter of “Silence of the Lambs” fame, toxic people are not trying to eat your flesh. No. Toxic people want to consume other things - your confidence, your self-esteem, your dreams, your ambitions, your goals, your desires. I think you get the picture.

The best thing you can do if you find yourself in the presence of one of these people is to run, hide, make other plans. Just get away from them as fast as you can. The least amount of time you spend with them the better.

Toxic people will attempt to indoctrinate you with huge amounts of negative input in a very short space of time, so it is imperative that you limit your time with them. They are easy to recognize. Their language gives them away. Every time they open their mouth out comes a litany of everything that is wrong with them, you, the world and other people.

Recognizing positive and negative personality traits is one of the skills of personal development. Many excellent books exist on this subject but there are none better than “Personality Plus” written by Florence Littauer.

In her book, Florence Littauer defines personality traits. In it you will learn how to get along with the four main personality types, and the multiple combinations of them. I have had the privilege of hearing Florence speak and she is a truly gifted author and presenter.

By understanding your own personality traits and those of other people you will enhance your ability to get along with those who are important to you. If you are a Human Resource Officer, a General Manager, a salesperson, or just somebody who likes to get along with other people, what would this skill be worth to you?

Guard yourself against the Hannibal Lecter’s of this world. Your life will be so much more fulfilling without their destructive influence.

Cholesterol Treatments Options: Statins

March 26th, 2008 by Administrator

Satins are pharmacuetical drugs that work by restricting the enzyme HMG CoA reductase. This is an enzyme which regulates how fast a rate cholesterol is produced in the body. By slowing down production of this enzyme, statins are able to lower LDL cholesterol levels more efficiently than many of the other cholesterol drugs on the market.

Actually, some studies have concluded that these cholesterol-lowering drugs can lower bad cholesterol by up to 60%, which can be good news for people with highly raised LDL-cholesterol. Some studies have also shown that Statins may contribute to lowering triglyceride levels and even slightly raising HDL cholesterol levels.

The statins most used today are lovastatin (Merck’s Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), fluvastatin (Lescol), atorvastatin (Lipitor from Pfizor) and simvastatin (Zocor). All the aforementioned benefits make statins among the most commonly used drugs for lowering cholesterol. The pharmacuetical company Merck is even trying to get approval from the FDA to sell their cholesterol drug Mevacor over the counter

If you take statins to lower your cholesterol, you can expect to see results in a few weeks. You need to take your medications with food, at night.

Although statins have less adverse side effects than many other cholesterol-lowering drugs, some patients may experience cramps, gas, stomach upset, constipation and other digestive problems. In many cases, these symptoms go away by themselves or at least become less severe as the body adjusts to the statins. In some case, your doctor may suggest taking a lower dosage in order to control side effects.

More serious problems from statins include the risks of muscle problems and liver complications. Such issues are quite rare in patients who take statins, but if you notice any pain or unusual symptoms while taking statins, you will want to seek medical help right away.

Finding the best Body Modification Community online

March 11th, 2008 by Administrator

There are a lot of websites out there that cater to the Body Modification scene, but
not too many that would really be considered quality. In fact,
up until 2002, there was really only one place to go, BME (Body
Modification Ezine). And it’s still the mother of all body
modification web sites. But in 2002 a new niche in the web was
carved almost by accident, BodyMod.org (http://www.BodyMod.org) . The
developer and administrator of this website created it with one
simple idea in mind, open source. Now, the code to the site
isn’t open source, but the mentality on how it is run is, and
it’s completely free! Even better than that, for all the members
(which is free), there aren’t even any ads! It’s a rare gem
these days. There is no preliminary judging of photos by a
select few, and there’s no requirements for what postings can
be. It’s really the only place on the Internet where anyone can
post any picture of their body modification that they want. On
top of that, the photos are open to comments, ratings, and a
whole slew of other inter-workings. What started out as a
website hobby for one guy is now becoming the fastest growing
online body modification website around. In less than 3 years
time, they’ve already acquired over 10,000 unique members (which
is a lot for such a small niche), and have galleries full of
images of piercings, tattoos, and even more hardcore body
modifications. With a foundation of education, community, and
sharing, this is a website where only the sky is the limit. If
you’re into body modification of any type and you haven’t
visited BodyMod.org (http://www.BodyMod.org) then
you’re missing out. So head on over, post your photos, and check
out all the other “BModders”. I will leave you with this one
warning, you may become extremely obsessed and wind up getting
even more done because of it. Making Body Modification a fun, open,
and collective experience since 2002, BodyMod.org!

Assisted Living: Tips on How to Choose a Facility

March 8th, 2008 by Administrator

It is easy to be fooled by fancy drapery or expensive furniture that may decorate a care facility. Even though a facility looks high class doesn’t always mean the care provided is first class. The following are just a few simple guidelines to follow when selecting either a nursing home or an assisted living facility:

1. Talk with people in the community who are familiar with the facility you are looking at. Get their opinions and feedback.

2. In order to get the feel of the residents and their activity level, tour the facility during meals times, or right before or after a meal. Activity level is usually higher during these times. This will give you a general idea of the atmosphere and the quality of food being served. Great meals are one of the lasting enjoyments our seniors have.

3. Pay attention to the residents in the facility. Do they appear to be happy? Unhappy residents could indicate their needs are not being met properly. Do the caregivers know the residents by name? Is there adequate interaction between caregiver and resident?

4. If you have concerns about the facility, don’t be afraid to ask the staff questions and voice any concerns you may have. Did you receive adequate answers? Was the staff professional? Ask the administrator about the staff turnover rate. If it’s high, ask for the reasons why.

5. Examine all license and state or county inspection results for the facility. Each facility is required to display these items. A facility with little or no deficiencies is most likely a facility that wants to get the job done right the first time.

6. Research the facility using resources on the internet such as the Nursing Home Compare at www.medicare.gov or view license and enforcement action information with the appropriate state agency.

7. Trust your instinct. If you feel uncomfortable about a facility, there is a reason why. If a second unscheduled visit yields the same uneasy feeling, go with your gut feeling.

Overall, being familiar with a few simple guidelines will help make your selection process much easier. Selecting a care facility for a loved one is a very important decision. The care your loved one receives will ultimately affect their quality of life. In the end, if you cannot see yourself living in a certain facility you’re visiting, then chances are you shouldn’t place your loved one there either.

Jump-in to a live-in relation

February 4th, 2008 by Administrator

Jump-in to a live-in relation

‘Exhausted and exasperated maintaining the noise of wedding
bells ringing and digging the brain; comforted by honoring the
face that lit up my hours of extreme moodiness I fall myself
thee at your feet for opening up the avenue for a live in
relationship’.

That was not a prayer but a genuine wish a woman put forward, a
wish most of us would agree to-not to those wanna-be-nice guys
who look for purity of relations- but to those magnets who would
wish to live their lives among the material space. Earth holds
no bounds and a free man or woman falls for no limitations
either; living life in whatever time and space they define as
their own.

How do you start up with a live-in relation? Wake up one
morning, stare at the man next to you, figure out who he is and
try to build up on what you stopped with last night. What is it
that makes the live in relation attractive?

Obviously the flamboyant way in which you can start it and of
course the unembarrasing grace of gilding you provide it and an
over the cup of coffee ending you ought to give it. Last but not
the least where do you find the live-in relation infringing your
privacy? Evidently when it calls for a live-together all life
relation.

Last fortnight my want for a beer ended me up at the mall,
quiet far from the work place; for want of a beer I ended up
seeing a handsome chick over the counter, and for want of a beer
I ended up seeing him quiet often.

We had the pleasure to fill in the gaps of pressure; had the
best coffee at the pub and we enjoyed the best nights we ever
had- we had a live-in relation for over a week. When the time
came for me to change gear, there was no hesitation to give a
parting kiss, a farewell for a bond which we could remember
throughout. My explanation was that ‘I have miles to go before I
sleep’.

Note: As far as love is safe it’s sweet, indulging into live in
relation is a sensational experience but be precautious about your health, do not just go with the flow. Be health
cautious and prevent yourself from unsafe sex.

Genes and the Mind

December 1st, 2007 by Administrator

While it has become generally accepted that our state of mind
plays some role in health and disease, most people believe that
the ultimate determinant of longevity resides in their genes.
Whenever I have asked a patient how long he or she expects to
live, their first instinct is to say, “Well, my mother died at
age X, and my father…” This is another way of saying that my
genes are my fate.

The twenty-first century has been heralded as the age of the
genome, and medical genetics is widely touted as the future of
health care. Diseases will soon be diagnosed by identifying the
faulty gene; therapy will either fix or replace it. While genes
are undeniably important factors in causing disease, their roles
have been vastly overemphasized. For the most common diseases
such as cancer and atherosclerosis, genes are predispositions,
not inevitabilities.

Identical twins have the same genetic risk for disease, yet
several studies have shown substantial differences in their
health histories. This is because another crucial factor in
determining one’s propensity for disease: an individual’s
environment. According to Craig Venter, former CEO of the
company that first decoded the human genome, “The wonderful
diversity of the human species is not hard-wired in our genetic
code. Our environments are critical.”

A recent report in the New England Journal studied 44,788 twins
to evaluate the comparative importance of genes and the
environment in causing the most common types of cancer. The
study concluded: “Inherited genetic factors make a minor
contribution to susceptibility in most types of cancer. The
overwhelming contributor to the causation of cancer is the
environment.” It is now widely accepted that 80 to 90 percent of
human cancer is due to nongenetic factors.

The overriding importance of environmental elements is also
clear in the development of atherosclerosis, the number one
killer in the United States. Atherosclerosis is a multifactoral
disorder resulting from an interaction of several predisposing
abnormalities such as high cholesterol, hypertension and
diabetes. Research has conclusively shown that reducing these
risks substantially decreases the probability of having a heart
attack or stroke. For example, a loss of just 7 percent of body
weight in obese people reduces the incidence of diabetes by 58
percent, while shedding 10 pounds will normalize the blood
pressure of those with borderline hypertension, no matter what
their genetic propensity.

The human genome project has given us a more nuanced
understanding of how genes work. It is now clear that they are
not static blueprints that dictate our biological behavior. Most
genes have switches, called promoters that control how, when,
and even if they become active, a phenomenon known as gene
expression. Other regulatory elements, called gene enhancers,
also play a role. Even slight alterations in promoters or
enhancers can lead to dramatic changes in gene expression. But
the factors that determine whether or not genes are turned on or
off, and for how long, remain largely unknown.

Animal studies have begun to show that social, behavioral and
environmental elements can determine whether or not genes are
expressed. For example, stress has been demonstrated to cause
diabetes in genetically prone animals, while those with the same
genetic susceptibilities not exposed to stress are less likely
to develop the disease.

Recent insights into Pavlov’s famous conditioning experiments in
dogs provide another striking example. A century ago, the
Russian scientist showed that the brain of dogs could be trained
to anticipate the arrival of food. We now know that this type of
training changes the brain through the expression of seventeen
genes that have been given the name CREB genes.

These findings demonstrate that a change in mental conditioning
not only affects gene expression, but also can actually change
the way our genes operate. They prove that our genes no longer
should be thought of as immutable determinants of our fate, but
as dynamic entities, switching on and off in response to outside
influences, as much the result as the cause of our mental,
emotional, and biological processes.

People with a strong will to live understand that when they take
life-enhancing measures, their health and longevity will be
favorable affected, regardless of their genes. They take
responsibility for their lives instead of being victims of
events. Each and every one of us has the resources within to
affect our health and longevity.

Headaches Defined and Treatments that Actually Work

November 27th, 2007 by Administrator

Headaches are quite common. Everybody gets them, albeit some are more severe than others and some can indicate something more severe. Everyone has had them - sinus and allergy headaches, migraines, etc… This article will answer the questions of what causes them and how we should treat them.

Tension and allergy related headaches. When you feel pressure in your sinus areas or if you feel pressure around the top part of your head this is what you are experiencing. They are usually a dull bothersome ache that feels like a weight hanging from that area. They also tend to slow your reactions and make you lethargic. They can last from a few hours to a few days. Allergy headaches are usually associated with sneezing, stuffy nose, and can drain from one side to the other. Treatment for these headaches is similar - acetaminophnen (ibuprofen) usually works to reduce the severity of this headache. Also, Claritin works well for alergy related symptoms. For more severe tension headaches doctors have been known to use oxygen machines and a few injectable drugs that give a more immediate effect.

Migraines. These can be quite serious and are by far the most painful. They feel like a burst blood vessel or artery as they have a pulsing feel to them. They can be so painful that they can make you sick to your stomach (nausea), cause light sensativity and even virtigo. Migraines are quite prevalent and can also indicate something more severe like a brain tumor, a weakened blood vessel, abnormal changes in blood pressure and pH, etc… Repeated patterns of migraines or other headaches should be brought to the attention of your doctor for this reason. Your body many times will tell you when something is wrong and a abnormal or irregular headache or bodyache that has become chronic is a good indication that something may be off. It may be as simple as a hormonal imbalance, new stress, etc… Regardless, your doctor knows best and it should be brought to their attention. There are over the counter products that contain pain relievers and caffeine that may work. Doctors usually prescribe beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and other various narcotics.

Cluster or frontal headaches. These tend to be due to stress and the work environment usually. Glare from your computer monitor, strain from wearing the wrong prescription or incorrect and outdated prescription corrective lenses. I can’t stress this enough. Once a year, every year, go and get a routine eye exam. Your eyes will be healthier and you will be glad you did. These headaches tend to have a very sharp, stabbing pain. They tend to occur more often in males and are shortest in duration. Usually over the counter medicines are very helpful with these headaches. For more severe forms doctors will prescribe narcotics and similar.

These are the main types of headaches and treatments for them. Many doctors have lately found mental relaxation techniques like Yoga to be quite helpful in reducing and preventing headaches. This article is for information purposes only. For correct dignosis and medical advice you should seek the appropriately trained physician as they can best test, evaluate and recommend a course of treatment for you. If you experience irregular, sharp and severe headaches that are new, get to a doctor or hospital right away as it could be an indication of or a precursor of a stroke, aneurysm, or other medical emergency.
