Contemplating Breast Enhancement

May 22nd, 2008 by Administrator

Anyone contemplating breast enhancement should meet with the plastic surgeon beforehand. Selecting a plastic surgeon might not be an easy task or a task that should be taken lightly. Like all surgery, there are risks associated with breast enhancement surgery and this should be investigated.

It might be a good idea to first ask any family members or friends who had had their breasts enlarged, about their opinion on the surgeon that handled their case. In this way, you will be able to find out all the positive and negative information about a plastic surgeon.

After you have decided on a plastic surgeon for your breast enlargement surgery, the next step will be to meet with the surgeon. During this time you will be able to ask the surgeon about how many of these procedures they have done, or if they are certified. Almost all surgeons will have a portfolio showing a breast enhancement photo of any previous patients they have completed.

While the before and after breast enhancement photo should not be the sole reason for choosing a plastic surgeon to enlarge your breasts, this photo can be used as a way to determine if the surgeon is able to do the results you are looking for. Looking at a before and after breast enhancement photo can also help to give you an idea on how you would like your own breasts to look, if you are not sure about what size to go up to.

Other than the breast enhancement photo, it is wise to judge a potential new plastic surgeon on their manner on which they relate and listen to you. Your plastic surgeon should be able to answer your questions intelligently and give you reassurance that they are skilled enough to complete the procedure.

Pepper Spray: What Is It And How Does It Work

May 9th, 2008 by Administrator

Pepper spray (also known as OC spray-Oleoresin Capsicum), or capsicum spray is an inflammatory agent. (A chemical that irritates the eyes to cause tears, pain, and temporary blindness) The spray is an organically based inflammatory agent derived from the active ingredient of cayenne peppers. Pepper spray typically comes in canisters, which are often small enough to be carried concealed in a pocket or purse.

Pepper spray causes immediate dilating of the eye capillaries resulting in temporary blindness, temporary paralysis of the larynx (which causes subjects to lose their breath), choking and coughing. The defensive spray also will create an intense burning sensation on the surface of the skin and nausea. The mucous membranes will swell to prevent all but life support breathing. After being sprayed subjects immediately cover their eyes and bend over into a defensive posture to avoid further contact. It is very uncomfortable and there is some pain associated with it. The result is temporary incapacitation, mostly due to not being able to see or breathe properly.

OC Spray may not be quite as effective on addicts, intoxicated or hysterical persons. You may have to spray them twice with a good burst of pepper spray to have the desired effect. The length of the effects depend on the strength of the spray but the average full effect lasts around thirty to forty-five minutes, with after effects lasting for hours. The strongest concentrations are 15% active ingredients and rated at 2 million scoville heat units. The high scoville heat rating is more important than the actual percentage of pepper spray ingredients.

Pepper spray is often used to control riots or other violent situations as well as in self defense. A violent assault occurs every 15 seconds in the US and carrying defensive sprays are potent self defense products and safer than guns. Pepper spray is non lethal except under a few rare circumstances, depending on pre-existing medical conditions. There is rarely long term vision damage.

If one is infected with pepper spray, the best thing to do is to blink constantly. This will induce tears that can wash the pepper spray out of ones eyes. Washing one’s eyes with soap such as mild non-oily degreasing dishwasher detergent can help you relive some of the pepper’s irritation. The pepper spray has an effect of about half an hour until the effects ware off. Pepper spray is illegal in certain countries such as UK, and requires a license in most other countries including the United States, Canada, and Sweden.

Online poker chips away at sexual stereotypes

May 3rd, 2008 by Administrator

Women are being increasingly attracted to the excitement of
online poker. Many professional women now shop extensively
online and it’s natural that they should explore other ways of
having fun and spending their money online.

According to the UK’s fastest growing poker website, Victor
Chandler Poker (http://www.vcpoker.com), it’s no longer just a
man’s game. One in six new players joining Victor Chandler Poker
is female - up from virtually zero just 2 years ago. The typical
female player tends to be between 24 and 25, internet savvy,
shops online and has a professional business career.

Why women are taking up online poker

There are 5 main reasons why women are taking up online poker:

•Poker is gaining a lot of media attention. TV games shows,
high-profile tournaments and the traditional portrayal of poker
in film and TV gives the game a glamorous, exciting image.

•More and more women are playing the game professionally. The
success of women players listed on the Women’s Poker Hall of
Fame has created some powerful role models.

•The web creates a safe environment. Logging on to a poker
website is nowhere near as intimidating as walking into a
male-dominated casino. Good online poker rooms are moderated,
mostly by women.

•Online poker caters for the novice player in a way that was not
possible before the web. First, the anonymity means no-one has
to worry about looking stupid. Second, there are extensive tips,
articles and tutorials online that rapidly educate the novice
player.

•Games can be played just for fun or for small stakes. One fear
is getting into a game where the stakes are continually rising.
But fixed cost games mean that if women want to bet, they know
exactly how much they stand to win or lose.

Anecdotal evidence from the gambling industry suggests that
traditional female traits such as assessing difficult
situations, taking in information from multiple sources, make
women ideal poker players.

But do women really make good poker players?

Research from Cambridge Professor, Simon Baron-Cohen in his book
“The Essential Difference” suggests that men and women do show
different personality traits. These traits undoubtedly influence
how both men and women play poker.

Professor Baron-Cohen identified three brain types - the female
brain, the male brain and the balanced brain:

•In the female brain called the E-type, empathizing is the
dominant characteristic

•In the male brain called the S-type, systemizing is the
dominant characteristic

•In the balanced brain called the B-type, both characteristics
are finely balanced.

According to Professor Baron-Cohen the female/male difference is
not absolute but on average, more women have E-type brains and
more men have S-type brains. His conclusions:

•Women tend to be better at decoding non-verbal communication,
picking up subtle nuances and judging a person’s character. Even
online, players exhibit certain ‘poker tells’ that can indicate
the strength of their hands.

•Introduced to new situations, women will stand and watch while
men rush in, trying to be the centre of attention. The ability
to observe and assess other players before joining in brings an
advantage

•Males show more direct aggression while women tend to show
indirect aggression.

Women are becoming more aggressive

And if that was not enough to intimidate the male poker player,
research from Purdue University suggests that they will face
even stiffer competition from women in the future.

Social psychology Professor Amanda Dickman surveyed over 800
adults on the personality characteristics of men and women and
found that women are increasingly exhibiting personality traits
typically associated with males.

According to Dickman, “Women are perceived as having become much
more assertive, independent, and competitive over the years.”

The future of women’s poker online

Research shows that women do indeed have certain personality
traits that predispose them to be good poker players. Add to
this a layer of aggression and experience and it seems
inevitable that potent and successful women poker players will
emerge. Online poker websites have already noted a significant
growth in women players. The market savvy among them will be
quick to see the opportunity and provide facilities and
tournaments to encourage more women to play.

5 Common Causes of Snoring

April 11th, 2008 by Administrator

Snoring can be caused by a number of things and if you’re looking for a way to stop snoring, the first step is to figure out the cause.

There are 5 common causes for snoring…

Drinking Alcohol

If you regularly drink alcohol, you should check to see if your snoring is a problem on a night when you don’t drink anything.

Alcohol is a depressant and can contribute to snoring because it relaxes the muscles in your neck and throat. This relaxation is more advanced than with regular sleep and this can cause your airways to become restricted.

If you snore only when you’ve been drinking, the obvious solution is to stop drinking. If that isn’t an option, at least have your last drink more than 4 hours before you go to sleep.

Sleeping on Your Back

Many snorers only have a problem when they’re sleeping on their back. The solution to this is to train your body to sleep on your side.

There are plenty of devices that help with this, but they’re mostly variations of a home-grown remedy.

Put a tennis ball in a sock and pin it to the back of your pajamas. When you roll onto your back, the discomfort will make you naturally roll back onto your side.

Are You Overweight?

Excess weight can lead to snoring. When you’re overweight, you can get fatty tissue in your neck and throat area which can put a strain on your airway and restrict your breathing. In this case, the obvious solution is to lose some of the extra weight.

Do You Use Antihistamines or Sleeping Pills?

These products can have a similar effect to alcohol. They relax your throat muscles more than normal sleep would and this can lead to snoring problems.

Do You Suffer from Allergies?

Allergies can result in nasal congestion. This can make it difficult for your body to get the necessary oxygen.

The problem is, antihistamines can also contribute to snoring so the best solution is to just take a decongestant rather than an antihistamine.

These are some of the more common causes of snoring, but you should talk to a health care professional to get an informed opinion of what’s causing your snoring and the best solution for it.

John Lenaghan writes about how to stop snoring and other snoring related topics on the Snoring Solutions website. For more information visit http://www.snoringsolutions.org

Generic Viagra: Vital Key in Relationships

April 2nd, 2008 by Administrator

Life without sex might be safer but it would be unbearably dull. It is the sex instinct which makes women seem beautiful, which they are once in a blue moon, and men seem wise and brave, which they never are at all. Throttle it, denaturalize it, take it away, and human existence would be reduced to the prosaic, laborious, boresome, imbecile level of life in an anthill.
- Henry Louis Mencken

The health of a relationship hinges on the sexual health of its bearers. A healthy sexual relationship between couples is vital for the longevity of a satisfied emotional bond shared by the two.

Any kind of sexual dysfunction in a partner can lead to an emotional turmoil and may even lead to serious medical complications besides affecting a healthy relationship. Male erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence is a common factor for sexual tensions. Men’s health is so very vital in relationships as women’s. And impotence can certainly play havoc with the lives of couples.

Simply, ED is a medical condition that results in failure of male organ to achieve and maintain erection. Resultantly, women fail to achieve orgasm and the males cannot enjoy sex.

Though there are question marks over the efficacy of generic Viagra vis–vis Pfizer Viagra but many clinical trials have dispelled these doubts to a large extent. Generic Viagra also primarily contains sildenafil citrate and works in the same way as Viagra. It controls the blood flow into the erectile tissue in a way that ensures optimum and long lasting erection.

The manufacturers of generic Viagra claim that the drug is manufactured in accordance with World Health Organization standards and guidelines (WHO-GMP). Some results have also reported that generic Viagra works within 15 minutes as compared to Viagra which normally takes 30-35 minutes to take effect.

Generic Viagra is an option which must be explored only after consultation with your doctor. Above all, it’s the special relationship between you and your partner that is at stake.

Menopause, Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

April 1st, 2008 by Administrator

Hot flashes are one of the most talked about symptoms of Menopause. About 80% of the women in America experience hot flashes and night sweats during menopause. The body produces less estrogen and progesterone during menopause, but menopause is not necessarily caused by these fluctuating levels. Hot flashes could last from a few seconds to a few minutes; and in some cases is known to last half an hour to one hour. Most women have hot flashes and night sweat lasting from two months to two years, and in some rare cases they continue to have them for a decade, after menopause.

The severity of hot flashes that a woman experiences depends on the lifestyle and psychological factors. Some women really sweat, while others may only perspire. Following hot flashes, some women have headaches, feel dizzy, weak, tired or lose sleep, experience palpitations and skipped or erratic heartbeats. It is always advisable to consult your doctor, whether if these are symptoms of menopause or a sign of normal illness or a medical disorder.

Hot Flashes and Night Sweats - The Causes and Remedies
Many women cope with hot flashes, while and others have difficult times. Hot flashes and night sweat can cause interrupted sleep, insomnia, panic attacks, anxiety and depression, among others. Categorized as mild, moderate or severe; mild hot flashes produce a feeling of warmth for less than a minute, and with little or no perspiration. Moderate flashes produce more warmth and a little perspiration and last for two to three minutes. Severe hot flashes produce intense heat and sweat, and last longer.

Spicy food, alcoholic drinks, hot drinks, white sugar (can also cause palpitations), hot weather, stress, hot tubs and saunas, tobacco, marijuana and unexpressed anger could cause hot flashes. Hot flashes are known to deplete Vitamin B, Vitamin C, magnesium and potassium in our bodies, and there is a need to increase the intake of these nutrients, including calcium. For mild hot flashes, a daily dosage of 400 to 800 IU of Vitamin E is recommended.

Most women start a daily dose of 600 to 800 IU of Vitamin E with Vitamin C, and when the flashes subside, take 400 IU. Vitamin E has been effective on 50% to 60% of women, and it takes around two to six weeks for the effects to show. Vitamin E is contraindicated with certain medical conditions, such as, diabetes, high blood pressure, or with rheumatic heart conditions, history of hypertension, etc, and it is advisable to seek a doctor’s opinion.

250 mg Bioflavonoid, five to six times everyday, would help relieve hot flashes.

Hot Flashes and Night Sweats - In Non-Western Cultures
Less than 10% of women in non-western cultures, such as, in Japan, Mexico, and India, experience hot flashes and night sweat. It has been linked to high soybean consumption, which stimulates estrogen production. Herbs, such as, ginseng, vitex agnus castii, licorice root, black cohosh, dong quai, blue cohosh, false unicorn and sarsaparilla, can alleviate hot flashes.

Why the Mediterranean Diet is Good for Women

March 28th, 2008 by Administrator

Six Reasons the Mediterranean Diet Promotes Good Health

Over the course of the past forty years, women the world over have become particularly concerned about their diets. They have become concerned about diet related issues for two primary reasons:

1. Women have expressed concern over how a particular diet plan effects their appearances

2. Women have expressed concern over how a particular dies plan effects their health

As a result, a growing number of women have found themselves attracted to the Mediterranean diet. When it comes to the Mediterranean diet, there are six primary reasons why women find themselves strongly attracted to the diet regimen.

3. Weight Loss and Healthy Weight Maintenance

In many countries around the world, a record number of women are being classified as overweight and even obese. As a result, a growing number of women find themselves seeking effective and healthy dieting regimens to lower their weight to appropriate levels — for both cosmetic as well as health reasons.

The Mediterranean diet has proven itself to be very effective at providing a means through which women can lose weight in a healthy manner. Additionally, the Mediterranean diet has proven incredibly effective as being a solid path a woman can take to maintain a generally ideal and healthy weight.

4. Anti-oxidants and Aging

The Mediterranean diet regimen is flush with foods that are rich in anti-oxidants. This includes leafy, dark green vegetables as well as certain fish that are common features in this dietary scheme.

Anti-oxidants have been proven to slow the appearance of aging in women. Additionally, anti-oxidants have been demonstrated as being effective at preventing organ and skin deterioration in women. The consumption of foods that are high in anti-oxidants has been proven to enhance longevity in both women and men.

5.Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is an ailment in which a person ends up afflicted with both Type Two diabetes and hypertension. Most experts believe that diet can play a significant role in reducing the likelihood of metabolic syndrome in men and women who are prone to the ailment.

Without exception, medical experts who have studied the cause and effect of metabolic syndrome universally have agreed that the Mediterranean diet is the perfect dietary scheme to prevent and control metabolic syndrome.

6. Heart Disease

Multiple studies in a number of different countries have concluded that the adoption of the Mediterranean diet lowers the incidence of heart disease in women (and men). Indeed, an analysis of the incidence of heart disease in the Mediterranean nations suggests that the use of the Mediterranean diet can lower the incidence of heart disease in women from twenty-five to forty percent.

7. Hypertension

Recent scientific studies have examined the rising incidence of hypertension amongst women. Many researchers attribute the increase in hypertension amongst women in recent years to a number of changes that have occurred in their lives, including:

– a greater number of women entering the workforce

– a growing number of women being forced to juggle the raising of children with a full time career

– the food and beverage choices that women are making in the 21st century

Research studies in a dozen different countries over the course of the past twenty years have suggested that the Mediterranean diet is effective at lowering the incidence of hypertension in men and women. Because the Mediterranean diet is high if fruit, vegetables and whole grains and because the diet is low in saturated fats, most nutritionists and other experts believe that the dietary scheme works to lower hypertension in both men and women.

The Mediterranean diet combined with regular exercise has been demonstrated to have a marked effect on reducing the incidence of hypertension amongst middle aged women.

8. Breast Cancer

Perhaps the most important “ingredient” of the Mediterranean diet is olive oil. Save for fresh fruits and vegetables (in most instances) olive oil universally is present in the Mediterranean diet. As a result, on the surface, the diet scheme appears to be high in fat. Indeed, upwards to thirty percent of the caloric intake of the Mediterranean diet does come fat. What is important to keep in mind is that nearly 100% of the fat in the Mediterranean diet is unsaturated and comes directly from olive oil. In other words, the fat in the Mediterranean diet essentially is healthy. Olive oil, and the fat contained in the product, simply does not trigger the negative consequences that flow from saturated fats, from animal fats.

In addition, there have been several important scientific studies undertaken in the past decade that have demonstrated that a diet high in olive oil works to lower the risk of breast cancer in women. Thus, one of the beneficial results of adopting the Mediterranean diet is a lowering of the risk for breast cancer.

Benefit Of Breastfeeding

February 26th, 2008 by Administrator

An estimated 16 percent of U.S. children are overweight and carry a significant risk of developing heart disease and diabetes while young adults.

One study in 2005 by scientists shows that formula fed babies who gained weight rapidly during their first week of life were significantly more likely to be overweight decades later.

“It suggests that there may be a critical period in that first week during which the body’s physiology may be programmed to develop chronic disease throughout life,” said Dr. Nicolas Stettler, a pediatric nutrition specialist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

And so he thought that the findings pointed toward ways to prevent the development of long term obesity. More studies need to be done to be sure.

The American Association of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding during a baby’s first six months of life,” Stettler said. Breast fed babies are less likely to be overweight.

Some other benefits of breastfeeding for infants are:

  • Fewer ear and respiratory infections.

  • Less allergies.
  • Reduced incidences of cancer.
  • Certain immunities are passed from mother to child.
  • Reduced incidence of blood infections and meningitis.
  • More contact with mother.
  • Reduced incidences of insulin-dependent diabetes.
  • Acts as first brain food as it helps to set down the proper matrix for humans.

Pretty important benefits, don’t you think? So encourage new mothers to breastfeed. It may seem inconvenient, and may take some getting used to, but the benefits to the baby may last a lifetime.

Face Your Fears

January 26th, 2008 by Administrator

Fear can be broken down into three categories: real (healthy),
imagined (thought-based) and worry. Although fear can get in
your way by interfering with your hopes, dreams and desires;
fear is not always a bad thing. Admitting you’re afraid of
something can be quite enlightening. It gives you a chance to
assess what is holding you back.

Real Fears Protect Let’s look first at “real” fearthat is, fear
or concern that’s based in reality and that you must look at and
evaluate rationally to maintain your physical, emotional or
spiritual health. This kind of fear often acts as nature’s
warning signal. There are definitely times when we are fearful
of pursuing our hopes, dreams and desires for some very good
reasons. Feeling “afraid” to start your own business when your
financial reserves are lacking is a healthy fear. Your intuition
is sending you signals to get your financial house in order
before embarking on a new venture.

Imagined Fears are Obstacles On the other hand, imagined fear is
not healthy. When our fear is basically in our heads, it can be
unreasonable and paralyzing. Imagined fear needs to be examined
very closely. Is what you consider a reasonable fear really a
rationalization or an excuse for not trying. Do these sound
familiar? “I’m too old to do something new.” “It will take too
long.” “I won’t be any good at it.” “People will laugh.”

Most imagined fears are outcome-basedin other words, the source
of the fear is attached to an end result or how things may turn
out. Two of our most common fearsof rejection and failureare
both are deeply connected to an outcome. However, if you spend
all your time fearing an unknown outcome, you will never move
forward. When you detach from the outcome you release the fear
and give yourself the opportunity to enjoy the process.

Worry Depletes Energy The third category of fear is plain old
worry. It’s the most pervasive form of fear, and it saps your
time and your energy. Worry is pointless and counterproductive.
It leeches time and energy away from achieving your goals.

But how do you stop? The key to overcoming worry is to learn new
patterns. When you find yourself beginning to worry, pay
attention to the physical symptoms that accompany that reaction.
Notice what kind of thoughts you have as you begin to worry.
Switch your thinking to the present. Focus on what you are doing
right now, in the present moment. Use this as a ritual to cut
worry off and bring you back to a more positive frame of mind.
Over time, as you grow more aware of the signals your body is
giving you, you’ll worry less and be more productive.

Playing with Your Coach Make a close assessment of one of your
fears. Is it real, imagined or just plain worry?

•If your fear is real, then understand its source and create a
plan to deal with it. •If your fear is imagined, analyze whether
or not it is outcome-based. Assess the risk of that outcome
versus the benefit of the action you are afraid of. •Make a
commitment for the next month to practice dropping and/or
ignoring most of your negative, fearful thoughts and worry.
Gently but firmly push them away. As they return, push them away
again. With a little practice you’ll find life is a lot more fun
without them.

Tobacco IS NOT Just Another Consumer Product!

January 21st, 2008 by Administrator

There are currently 1.1 - 1.4 billion smokers and tobacco users in the world and about 4.9 million of them will die THIS YEAR from smoking and tobacco related diseases. Tobacco IS NOT just another Consumer Product. This misconception would have to go down in history as one of the most successful product marketing shams. Why? How is it that a product can be marketed as giving flavour and satisfaction, when what you really get is addiction, sickness and poverty.

Tobacco is one of the few legal substances available in stores as a ‘consumer product’ that will kill or harm when used as intended. Wow! Forgive me if I sound a bit cynical towards the tobacco industry. Three thousand kids become new smokers every day. I’m more in shock than cynical!

I believe that anyone can quit smoking if they choose, even without the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy products. This statement may seem like a slap in the face for the giant NRT companies, but I’m sorry it’s true. Let me make another statement, ‘Nicotine Addiction is the World’s Greatest Deception’ and every smoker and tobacco user falls for the same lie.

I have examined the link between the ‘emotional gradualisation’ and the physiological rewiring of the brain from nicotine. The gradualisation process for most smokers is the product of a gradual numbing of the emotions to the point where our responses are slowly hardened to the consequences of smoking related disease. Even when facing death. In short anti-smoking emotional fear tactics do not work effectively for all smokers. Do people really take any notice of cigarette packet warning labels? I didn’t!

The bottom line is this…tobacco does kill. Smokers and tobacco users need urgent help to break the chains of the nicotine addiction. Tobacco reform laws and increased tobacco taxes will undoubtedly impose a certain amount of tobacco control.

However this will inadvertently cause unnecessary emotional trauma for many smokers being forced to stop smoking without access to comprehensive educational programs. Educational programs are essential for smokers to LEARN how to overcome the many internal and external psychological influences associated with nicotine addiction.

The multi-million dollar NRT industry, which seems to be riding very nicely on the back of the trillion dollar tobacco market, seems to target smokers and tobacco users with a very narrow medical approach, and as Alan I. Leshner Ph.D. Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) once quoted “Science has also shown that treating addiction with medications alone is not nearly as effective as when coupled with a behavioral approach.” [source NIDA]

The world is facing a major health epidemic as a result of smoking and tobacco related diseases. Over 450,000 people will die this year in the US alone from these diseases. These are very serious issues and my soap box plea is that tobacco is not ‘just another consumer product’, it is the source of the world’s greatest deception.
