Wedding Ring Styles - What is in Fashion?

May 17th, 2008 by Administrator

Wedding rings and bands aren’t just pieces of jewelry, they are a symbol of your love and devotion to each other. What are your options? Here, we will talk about current wedding jewelry fashion trends and how to choose a wedding ring that you will treasure forever.

Wedding rings and bands aren’t just pieces of jewelry, they are a symbol of your love and devotion to each other. Remember, you will have to wear your wedding ring every day for the rest of your life, so the ring should not only be beautiful but also comfortable to wear and a true reflection of your style. So what are your options?

First you will have to decide whether you want identical rings for yourself and your beloved or if the bride and groom will have different rings, to suit their individual personality. Then you will have to decide on the material and style.

These days you can find a stunning variety of wedding rings and wedding bands. The days when a wedding ring had to be yellow gold are long gone. Titanium, platinum and white gold rings have become incredibly popular. The reason white rings are in fashion is because they look modern and go with virtually any outfit. Diamond solitaire rings, diamond solitaires with accents and/or other germ stones, and Celtic wedding rings are also currently in fashion. See comparison of <a href=”http://www.man-wedding-rings-guide.com/diamond-bands.html”>wedding rings styles</a>

If you’re looking for a top-quality ring that would look great for a long time, then a platinum wedding ring is the best choice. Platinum is an elegant metal, which is very popular these days because of its white, shiny look and durability. Platinum doesn’t glitter as much as gold, either, which makes it look very chic. The only drawback to platinum rings is that they are rather expensive.

White gold rings are another popular choice for modern couples. A lot of people prefer the brilliance of a white gold wedding ring, so white gold solitaires are very fashionable now. You can get 10K, 14 K or 18K white gold rings but, since you expect your wedding ring to last for many years, it is best to go with a better quality 18K white gold ring.

Titanium is a durable, strong, hypoallergenic and very light precious metal, which makes it great for wedding and engagement rings. It looks similar to white gold and platinum rings, but feels much lighter. Titanium is also less expensive than platinum or white gold so, if you are on a budget, a titanium wedding ring would be an excellent choice.

Celtic wedding bands are also very popular. They can be made of yellow or white gold, platinum, titanium or silver. Celtic rings feature elaborated knotwork designs in one or more colors. If you don’t want a plain ring, a Celtic style wedding ring might be a suitable alternative.

These wedding ring choices are the most popular todays - but bear in mind that you and your beloved will wear your wedding rings for many years. Ring fashions can change. So it is best to choose the ring that you really like and best suits your personality.

Welcome To The Future Of Independent Music

Rochester, NY–March 28, 2005–Vision Music USA and Stretch The
Skies have fused their talents and resources to provide
independent musicians with a technology driven, one-stop shop
for achieving their musical goals. This union brings together
teams of like-minded individuals focused on identifying problems
and creating positive solutions for the artists with whom they
work.

Progress in both online as well as conventional areas of the
music business relies on a balanced system of trust, education,
guidance and resources. This is the space Stretch The Skies
intends to fill. “This merger will show the independent music
world what can be achieved when the focus is on empowering the
artist instead of competing with other organizations for an
artist’s attention. When companies truly start concentrating on
assisting musicians, our industry will be in a much better
place,” says Jeff Fournier, President of Stretch The Skies.

The core belief behind this philosophy is that artists have the
ability to empower themselves. The system is specifically
designed to walk a musician through each stage of the music
business by offering practical tools, industry education, artist
development and a career path that makes sense. “If being a
career musician is your goal, you’ve got to look at it as a
business. We empower artists so they don’t have to rely solely
on others. We feel the sooner an artist understands the business
side of things, the sooner they will understand what it takes to
reach their goals,” adds Josh Epstein, former President and
co-founder of Vision Music USA.

Stretch The Skies addresses the hurdles all independent artists
face, including selling merchandise and CDs and receiving credit
for CDs sold. For example, they’ve created a revolutionary piece
of technology called “The Music Button” that is designed to
increase CD sales. And through their state-of-the-art,
patent-pending technology for online distribution, artists have
the ability to sell their music virtually anytime, anywhere from
any website that allows for the retail link. Additionally,
artists receive vital Soundscan credit for these sales.

In total, there are twenty-five different artist development
services at Stretch The Skies, including commercial retail
placement, college and commercial radio promotion, publicity
campaigns, bio writing, graphic and web design and a pro bono
press kit and demo evaluation. Artists are given a free account,
allowing them the opportunity to research the system and
services for themselves. The complete service listing is
available on the company website.

Quick . . . think of a West Coast location where more than 200 movies have been shot. If you’re thinking of California, you’re right. But if you answered Monterey, about two hours south of San Francisco, then you probably have already taken Doug Lumsden’s Monterey Movie Tour. If you’re not clued into Monterey’s movie history, climb aboard, and let Doug show you how much Hollywood loves Monterey.

Right away, I know this is not an ordinary canned tour. Doug tailors his tour to our group an older family from the East Coast, a bunch of locals, and a film student. From his library of dozens of film clips, he shows those we know, and some that each generation will recognize.

More Than 100 Years Of Celluloid

Directors and cinematographers have been drawn to this area since 1897, when a cameraman working for Thomas Edison shot the pounding Monterey surf and filmed carriages arriving at the swanky Hotel Del Monte (now the Naval Post-Graduate School). Filmmakers from Cecil B. DeMille to Alfred Hitchcock have flocked to the Monterey Peninsula ever since, seeking the perfect backdrops for their shots.

Monterey has doubled for many famous places over the years, including Marin County’s Stinson Beach in “Basic Instinct”; Sausalito in “Star Trek IV”; Louisiana swampland in “The Muppet Movie”; and the 19th-century Baltic coast in budget-movie-king, Roger Corman’s “The Terror”.

“We’re in Movieland,” Doug chimes out. He was born in Monterey County, and his father was a friend of Clint Eastwood’s dad; they were both in the lettuce industry. Doug’s dad also was roommates with Jimmy Stewart in WWII, just after he won the Oscar for “Philadelphia Story”. Doug’s movie roots fuel his enthusiasm. Not only is he the president of the Monterey Film Commission, but also he’s a great source of local history and lore better known as small-town gossip.

Where the Locals Go

Doug is the owner, tour guide, and driver. After 22 years in banking, and seeing customer service go down the tubes, he decided to follow his dad’s inspiration and start celebrating his hometown. Doug had been providing generic scenic tours, as if any scenery in Monterey is generic! But in 2003, to honor the new DVD release of Clint Eastwood’s “Play Misty For Me”, Doug organized a special movie tour. Because “Misty” was filmed entirely in the Monterey area, choosing just a few locations for the opening was a challenge, but the event gave Doug the idea to create a movie tour. If you’re like me, and like to go where the locals go, this tour is it.

What You’ll See

First, you’ll see a comfortable, 32-seat bus with overhead TV monitors and headsets for listening to Doug’s commentary and the movie clips he shows. He is terrific at showing snippets just before you arrive at the location. When we first boarded the bus, we watched a scene from “A Summer Place”, with Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue. Our first stop was Colton Hall that doubled as Sandra’s girls’ school. Today, this historical museum was the home of the California Constitution.

Most of the movies made on the Monterey Peninsula were created in the 1920s about 30 films but continued to be recognized at the Oscars through the 1950s in “Mutiny on the Bounty” (1935), “Captains Courageous” (1937), “National Velvet” (1944), “From Here to Eternity” (1953), and “East of Eden” (1955). Monterey has also been featured in some real flops, and Doug shows a bit of these just for fun.

Corky at the Bat

February 20th, 2008 by Administrator

Controversy is raging with baseballs latest scandal. Most people are analyzing facts. This author chose otherwise.
Well, I can assume by now that you have heard the news which rocked the very essence of Major League Baseball Tuesday night. That’s right. Sammy Sosa the Dominican one-time almost-hero homerun hitter of the Chicago Cubs (acronym: Consistently Useless By September) hijacked an airliner and demanded that they serve larger bags of peanuts. Well, actually that is not what really happened. What really happened is the so-called slugger hit a broken-bat ground ball, and after a quick examination of the bat, the umpires (acronym: Ugly Male People In Ridiculous, Eerie Suits) discovered that the bat had been illegally “corked” and subsequently ejected Sosa from the game. “Corking” of baseball bats provides the hitters with the ability to hit the ball further than with ordinary solid wood bats.

As you can imagine, this incident has caused great commotion in the world of sports. Most people are busy discussing whether this was Sosa’s fault or was it an honest mistake. I, however, see no need for discussion. You see, I am a St. Louis Cardinals fan. The only thing I hate more than the Chicago Cubs is the fact that people think it is Illegal to remove the tag on their own pillows, quilts, and mattresses. In the United States, these items have consumer-information tags which have the following notice: “Under penalty of law, this tag not to be removed”. That is the first half of the sentence. The second half of the sentence is “except by the consumer”. Most people do not know about the second half of this sentence, mainly because they have the intellectual capacity of doormats (door mats, for your information, are not the smartest household items - I mean, we’re talking about an object who’s occupation is being stepped on). These people are convinced that there is a federal law that prohibits us from tampering with our own slumber equipment. These people are also probably Cub fans.

Back to the topic on hand (Sosa, or as I call him, “Corky Pig”), I, being a Cardinals fan, have no doubt as to Sosa’s methods of batting. Sosa has used a corked bat almost every time he has batted. I understand that they will be examining other bats that Sosa has used, but even if these bats contain no cork, I will be forced to assume that these were rare-occasion bats that he used accidentally instead of his regular game-day bats. Remember, we are talking about a guy who plays for the Cubs, a team that has not won a championship in almost one hundred years. And Chicago? This is a city that was once destroyed by Mrs. O’Leary’s cow. A cow. The city was burned by a milk machine. Can you imagine that? As the legend goes, The Great Chicago’s Fire was started when Mrs. O’Leary’s heifer kicked over a lantern in the barn. I don’t know what the lantern was doing there. Maybe the cow was using it to read the tag on its mattress.

I, for one, feel that Sosa should be banned from playing baseball. Not banned from the sport entirely, just from playing. In fact, he should be forced to sell concessions at Wrigley Field. That is, unless they start serving wine there. He should not be allowed near corks. Nonetheless, we cannot force a new career path on him. That would violate his rights. So instead, I will suggest a possible new career path for Mr. Sosa, now that his career in baseball is over.

The first possible profession that comes to my mind would be Foreign Relations for terrorist nations. Watching Sosa in his press conference following the game, I was amazed at how he could contradict himself so many times. The only press conference I ever saw that was worse than that was the one that Cubs Manager, Dusty Baker held immediately following Sosa’s. Imagine Sammy Sosa representing a threatening nation such as France. He would probably say stuff like this: “I… um… well… we like America. We apologize for insulting them. They are jerks. America is an arrogant country which we cannot stand. If we apologized for insulting them, it was a mistake and not our fault.” In fact, it wouldn’t be much different than France’s current practice.

Although Sosa taking up Foreign Relations would be quite amusing, he may not be so eager to start representing people who smell like barn waste. If so, I would suggest law. It seems that already having mastered the art of cheating, it would be only logical for him to continue along that path. Of course, if all else fails, he can work on the airline peanut issue.

5 Tips To Get Yourself Ready For A Home Loan Application

February 18th, 2008 by Administrator

5 Tips To Get Yourself Ready For A Home Loan Application

by Justin Koh

So you need to get a home loan to finance that new house? There are some things you must know to prepare yourself adequately for a favorable application.

1) Know your state of finance. Tabulating the numbers is the key to avoid future disappointment. Is the price of the new house within the range you can afford? How much you can afford will also be influenced by home-related cost like furniture, home accessories and gadgets, insurance, utility bills etc. Self-awareness through budget planning–a few months beforehand–enables you to anticipate for the amount of loan required so that you can repay it promptly.

2) Know your credit report is in good stead. Your credibility is what the lending company looks for in your financial background before it can approve a loan. You can find out your credit score through reports generated from Equifax Score Power, True Credit, or Consumerinfo. A low score almost always leads to high interest rates. Many factors determine your score, including length of history, income, a profiling of your debt and credit obligations etc. If there are areas in your report which can be improved, like closing unnecessary accounts, take the necessary actions and wait around 60 days for the latest status to take effect, then get another copy of your credit report.

3) Know all that you need about the fees and interest rates. Do a comparison of all the lending companies before settling down on the suitable one. Check that all terms and conditions are understood, and there are no other hidden cost. If you have questions, simply ask to clear the air.

4) Know what’s the repayment method is like. Depending on the company’s policy, you may pay back a portion of the loan plus interest, just the interest for the whole length of the loan plan or the complete sum including interest after the plan is completed. Discuss with the loan officer about your personal repayment capability to reach a mutual agreement.

5) Know what documents are needed for the application. Again check with the loan officer early to give yourself time to prepare them, which are likely to be your pay slip, home insurance policy, driver’s licence and social security information.

Finally, if you can apply for a loan online, you are most encouraged to do so. Instant Internet access gives you convenience and cuts short the time instead of you having to wait in the office for the paperwork to be done.

Creating Interest in a Beginner Pianist

January 23rd, 2008 by Administrator

A young beginner pupil is, indeed, an object for study, as well as a child to be taught. To a conscientious teacher a beginner pupil is a problem. In order to unfold that ability which is in the child, the teacher must first study what way to adopt in order to accomplish this unfolding in a worthy manner.

The first line of attack, so to speak, is to gain the interest of this pupil. In so doing the teacher has caused a spark which might be “fanned” into a small flame of enthusiasm; and this in turn will make “power” for effort on the pupil’s part. The desired results of unfoldment will gradually be brought about by this effort in the pupil.

To interest a beginner pupil, a teacher may use many clever methods. But the most reliable and the one upon which all methods of interest are founded is briefly stated thus: Give the pupil material which he is capable of doing. When he discovers that his fingers can easily do this, then he feels confident that he can play. Naturally, this sudden realization would create interest in any child; and after he has done so well with his first little piece he becomes anxious for more. But, right here the teacher must be careful. Realizing that only the “spark” has existed so far, he must go easy or it will go out.

The next proper move the teacher should make is first to study the character of the material just mastered by the pupil. Then, select more material similar to the first. Even if it is almost like the first, the pupil does not care, just so he knows that he has received a new piece.

As the pupil grows more acquainted with this form of material, discontinue it and introduce new things which require a little more effort on the pupil’s part. But this change must be done with much discretion.

After a short while, the teacher will see his pupil progressing upward into more difficult pieces with surprising quickness, and will have the satisfaction of knowing it is the result of his own correct instructions. And the product of this work is an interested and enthusiastic pupil.

Wicked Broadway Theater Review

January 19th, 2008 by Administrator

The hottest most sold out New York theater event in a long time,
the production of Wicked is selling out tickets, gaining fans
and driving internet ticket sales through the roof. Why? Why?
and i will ask again…why? well, the facinating story of the
original “Wizard Of Oz” is kept alive on Broadway, Wicked tells
the story well before Dorothy ever steps foot on the yellow
brick road, well before Kansas is even hit by a tornado and well
before Toto becomes a house hold name.

Wicked begins it’s storyline well before any of these event, a
matter of fact it begins with the youth of what will become the
“Witches of Oz”, focusing on how these two friends left school
and headed to the Emerald forest, how they met the Wizard and
how they seperated into two different directions, good and evil.
The characters really tell a deeper story of the American
concept of good and evil and how it relates into our society
today.

Winning the praises of critics and audiences alike, with a
somewhat weak musical score compared to other venues on the
famed Broadway theater distric in the heart of New York, what
you get here is the “prequel” the the original “Wizard of Oz”
which is facinating in itself. If you are a fan of the original,
then Wicked is a must see for you. The preoduction is enduring
great success at the Gershwin Theatre and will be running
through 2006.

How to Learn the Basics of Blackjack

January 1st, 2008 by Administrator

There is perhaps no other gambling game that is easier to win
and more fun to play than the game of blackjack.

If you are interested in testing your chances at gambling but
you don’t want to risk losing too much money, your best bet (pun
intended) is to play blackjack because the rules are easy to
understand and it’s not that hard to master the strategies that
you use for the game.

Learning How to Play the Game of Blackjack If you have no idea
how to play the game of blackjack then you’ll certainly be
surprised that you’ll need less than ten minutes to understand
everything there is to know about blackjack. In fact, you don’t
really have to listen to the gambling experts’ advice on
blackjack, but if you want to increase your chances of winning,
you should try reading articles such as these to avoid
committing mistakes common to gambling newbies.

In blackjack, the dealer first requires players to place a bet
even without seeing the cards that they’re going to be dealt
with. This is de rigeur for all blackjack games, online or
played in a real casino. After that, the dealer deals two cards
to every player on the table. The dealer can deal himself one or
two cards. One card would be ideal because it offers the other
players better chances of winning the round.

And now it’s time to look at the cards you’ve been dealt with.
The object of the game is for your cards to reach the value of
21 or one nearest to it but definitely not a value that’s
greater or more than 21. A set of cards with an equivalent of
value for example of 23 would immediately leave you out of the
running because your bet is immediately lost.

Now, when it comes to the values of the cards, simply remember
that face cards - King, Queen and Jack - are equivalent to 10
while the Ace could either be counted as one or eleven. Hence,
if your cards contain a 10, a King and a Three, that’s equal to
23 and means you’ve lost your bet.

The game of blackjack allows you to “hit” or “draw” as many as
five cards. The value of your cards shall only be pitted against
the cards of the dealer and no one else. So all you have to
worry about is what the dealer’s hand is.

And that’s that. Blackjack’s certainly easy, isn’t it? Good luck
gambling!

Sanity-Live at 22

December 31st, 2007 by Administrator

Artist: Sanity
Title: Live at 22
Format: DVD/CD
Genre: Progressive Metal
Label: Six Pack
Website: http://www.sanity.nl

The Netherlands is a hotbed of prog-rock and one of the latest entries that will enter our consciousness is Sanity. Its funny, I would think that they would have named themselves Insanity to be more inline with the formula of prog-rock being out there and different from any other music, although that sounds more like a punk name so Sanity works.

This DVD/CD set shows the band performing in a small nightclub called Twentietoe. You can tell by the reaction of the crowd after each song that there was definitely not a large throng of onlookers there. I think the band was more interested in having a decent stage to perform on to cut this video than having a typical concert hall audience to acknowledge each song. This is a low budget DVD; there is no doubt about it. The camera work is average and the lighting suspect. This is not what I am accustomed to at all; I guess you could call it a demo DVD at best.

The band does the best they can with what they have to work with so I have to give them credit. Sanity is a good band, musically they are solid and tight and the lead singer Kees van Keulen sounds like Iggy Pop and Bowie all rolled into one person. His voice suits the driving punishing riffs of guitar man Jereon Hoegee. I could most certainly appreciate the timely rhythm section of Roger van Acquoy (bass) and Fred den Hartog (drums) as well. Nathan Cairo provides the necessary symphonic elements with flurries of keyboard virtuosity to take off the harder edge of Hoegee’s guitar. The sound of Cairo’s fluttering keyboards smoothes out the edges to make it all sound like true metal-prog.

I like what I heard but the theatrics and imagery were nonexistent in this performance. I think if this band ever puts out another DVD, they need to work on getting some of those important elements to go along with their great music. I know it is expensive to provide all of that entertainment on stage and they are not to the point yet were they could do this on a regular basis. I think it is something to think about if they are going to go through all the trouble to make a DVD again. I would suggest listening to the accompanying CD first to get an idea of what they sound like then checking out what they look like onstage after that. Get some of your own imagery conjured up in your head so you can let it unfold inside your mind while watching them gig. They have a story to tell and the music to move it all along, they just need someone to discover them and help them push it out there some more.
