Fashion Details - 5 Tips To Improve Your Image

February 14th, 2008 by Administrator

When it comes to looking great and presenting a good image, taking care of details is very important. It is simple for most to go into a store, and with the assistance of the store’s salesperson, select a very appropriate outfit for any occasion. She or he can set you up with a smart outfit and help you select the best accessories. Unless, this salesperson becomes your personal shopper or image consultant, after you have left the store you will need to know how to use accessories and mix and match yourself.

One of the most common mistakes that people make when it comes to taking care of details is wearing socks with sandals. Even though it seems that this is something “everyone knows” as soon as the weather warms up, socks and sandals can be seen on a regular basis. My point is, that to be well dressed and present a good image, details can make a huge difference and the details are sometimes not obvious or at least not obvious to everyone. One detail left unattended to can ruin an otherwise polished look. Here are 5 of many details that are very important in presenting a good image.

1. Your appointment book is an extension of your image; choose one that is a plain color and has a classy look - not plastic. Pens too, should be good quality.

2. To keep your image impeccable only use good quality umbrellas. A classic well-made good quality umbrella is a worthwhile investment.

3. If you like and have a designer bag or bags - that’s great. However, if not, buy a good quality bag but, stay away from designer bag knock-offs - these are easier to spot than you might think.

4. Always match your metals. Gold with gold, silver with silver. Mismatched metals create a disorganized look.

5. Wristwatches should be purchased taking your overall proportions into consideration - a big watch on a thin wrist looks overpowering as, a thin watch fades on a large wrist. Wristwatches should also match the occasion - for business situations choose a watch with a leather strap.

These are just some of the details that can impact your image. When it comes to presenting a good image the details are endless. How is good your detail I Q? When you know you look great and you know the fashion rules you can relax and pay more attention on the task at hand.

Indian Apparel Industry 2006

December 20th, 2007 by Administrator

At the beginning of 2005, the Indian apparel Industry was staring at an immediate future where there would not be any more preferential treatment accorded to any country and the forces of the free market would decide where the business goes.

Today, at the beginning of 2006, all the Exporters in India are expanding capacities and investing in Technology and related solutions to be at par with their counterparts elsewhere in the world.

The Indian market never looked so bullish as it does today, February 2006. This was reflected in the overwhelming response to the recently concluded Exhibition in January 2006, at the NSIC Ground in Okhla, New Delhi, which was at the center of the action with a majority of the Exporters having set up their factories within 5 km radius of the venue. The exhibition covered about 22,000 Sq Mtr of space and attracted over 30,000 business visitors.

During the exhibition a lot of visitors showed an overwhelming interest in OptiTex software packages, especially the 3D draping solution and the specially developed Indian version of its software - in Hindi Language.

During the show a special seminar was also organized by one of the leading apparel Magazines - Apparel Online. The focus this time, was on showcasing the speed and the accuracy with which a CAD can be used to make the first patterns or base-sized patterns on the computer screen itself. This negates the need for the time consuming and often inaccurate process of digitizing or scanning the manually made patterns, before moving on to grading, as well as arriving at consumption.

The audience of the show consisted of technocrats from the Industry, as well as the professors and the final year students of Fashion technology from some of the leading educational Institutes in India. Mr. Saar Machtinger - Managing Director of India Operations and Mr. Gurdeep Singh - Manager Application support and Q.A. made the presentation. All the participating CAD Companies were presented a Spec sheet by the organizers and were asked to demonstrate their respective solutions and create the patterns for the same in front of the Audience explaining each step as they went along.

The Icing on the cake was the Final prototype. Using OptiTex 3D Runway Designer, the patterns were stitched together virtually in the software itself. The fabric used was chiffon and georgette and the garments were dresses which had a lot of frills and gathers. Dresses are predominantly tricky garments to put together, specially when we are dealing with high twist fabrics like georgette’s and chiffons cut on the bias. The audience was shown how we can cut down the time taken for developing the first prototype Right First Time. (RFT) and correct all the fitting problems on the fly.

The result was a perfectly balanced physical garment stitched together on its first attempt. The same garment was then put on the models on whose body measurements they were initially developed. The similarity was there for everybody to see.

The exact physical Prototype was exactly as the virtual garment developed in OptiTex 3D Runway Designer.

Curvy Tankinis: Plus Size Swim-Wear Choice for 2006

December 15th, 2007 by Administrator

So what do you look for when looking at plus size swim-wear? What I usually look for first and foremost is comfort. I go to the beach to relax therefore I definitely want swim-wear that I can easily move around in and which fits nicely.

Another vital element is support. Besides needing swim-wear which gives good bust support (we must protect our bosoms ladies) I also need tummy and butt support. What do I mean? Basically my chosen plus size garment needs to hold my tummy well, so that it’s nicely rounded and is not falling all over the place! Same principle applies to the curvy bottom really.

Last but not least, my chosen swim-suit definitely needs to be stylish and sexy. We all want our curves to look good when we stroll around on the beach. We should make the most of our curves, therefore a sexy and stylish plus size swim-suit is a must.

All the above are the things I look for when choosing swim-wear, and that is why this year I am opting for the plus size Tankini, because I believe it satisfies all the above criteria, and passes our plus size swim-wear test with flying colours.

The Tankini swim-suit style is made up of a two-piece garment. The top of the Tankini gives great support; it usually comes in without foam cups or under wires, giving you a smooth and yet comfortable and supportive result. Other variants of course are available, including under wire and cups.

The bottom part of the Tankini can be either a skirt or shorts; I have even come across variations of the Tankini which come with a skort bottom, therefore the choices are really vast and will satisfy everyone’s tastes and needs. The skirted Tankini provides great coverage for fuller thighs, so we can easily hide those bits which we aren’t particularly fond of easily, yet still feel comfortable, stylish and sexy.

Available at the leading plus size clothing stores this season, are some highly stylish Tankinis which you can choose from. Torrid, for instance, have one of the greatest selections I have seen so far this year which will definitely appeal to the young and young at heart. Vibrant colors and patterns dominate the Tankini collection at Torrid, which ensures that what you choose will definitely make you stand out from the crowd. For the more conservative types I would suggest paying Zaftique and Junonia a visit for some great choices and toned down versions of our chosen plus size swim-suit; plain colors and also floral patterns can be found here.

We definitely suggest equipping yourself with a fashionable Tankini this summer. You will definitely look stylish, you accentuate your curvy body, but most importantly you will feel at your most comfortable strolling around on the beach and hitting the waves.

Choosing The Right Handbag For Your Body Type

December 10th, 2007 by Administrator

Believe it or not trying on a purse is just as important as trying on clothes. Even though a purse is just an accessory, wearing the wrong style, size or shape can really ruin your look. The part of the body that the handbag rests on will be the part of the body that the eye will be drawn to. The right choice of handbag can actually accentuate your positive attributes. Before you order one of the seasons hot, new bags, learn how to choose the right bag for your body type.

Things to consider before purchasing a purse online

If you are slim and tall -

You are lucky! Being tall and slim allows you to get away with most purse styles. Oversize bags, shoulder bags and clutch bags will all look great. The only thing you really need to watch is the size of the handbag you choose. Small bags should be avoided as they will make you look bigger. Mid size, large, floppy or bulky handbags are best. Bright colors, prints and patterns are okay, too.

If you are short and petite -

The most important thing to watch for as a petite girl is the size of the bag you choose. A good rule of thumb is to remember proportion. Small bags work well for small girls. Choose small bags and wear them close to your body.

If your hips are large -

If you wish to draw attention away from the hip area try a shoulder bag. Choose one with a short strap. The purse can be tucked easily under the arm. The best look for you is a shoulder bag or a hobo bag that hangs slightly but ends well above the hip line.

If you are top heavy -

If you are generously endowed on the upper half of your body you will probably want to draw attention away from your bosom or waist. A messenger bag or a handbag is a good choice for your body type. If you really want a shoulder bag try one that has a long strap and is fairly large in size.

If you have great curves -

A shoulder bag that ends just above the waist is the most flattering style for you. The only type of bags that you will want to avoid are ones that are either really big or really small.

If you are a plus size -

Any style of bag that is wider in width like a Hobo bag suit you best. Stay away from bags that are small. A small bag will make you look larger. Go for bags with short to medium length straps.

Gangster Fancy Dress Options

November 24th, 2007 by Administrator

Gangster fancy dress options are simply perfect for just about anyone out there. If you have a thrill for the unknown and mysterious look of the gangster era, then dressing the part is not a bad idea. Of course, that is not the only thing that you can dress as, but it just might be one of the best out there for those that love the look or the drama that involves them. What are you going to use in your costume to make the part real? The more real it is, the more you will be able to sell yourself as a gangster. Let’s talk about what you need to wear so that you can look as menacing as those individuals did in the twenties.

Let’s talk about the gangster fancy dress. What will you wear that will make your look, well, perfect? Start with the best suit. The suit should be black with pin stripes. Gangsters were known for having a very sharp, clean and expensive look. There is no limit to the quality of suits that these people wore during that time. Of course, you do not need to purchase the most expensive suit to still pull the look off. Look for a gangster fancy dress that already has that look. In fact, you can just purchase the trousers and jacket that look real and maybe use them again at some point. Nevertheless, that is not all there is to this look. The gangster fancy dress should also be full of great accessories. The shoes are typically the shoe of the era. The black and white stylish, expensive looking ones! Make sure that you complete the look with a hat. A nice, black rimmed hat is what you need to top the look off. Let’s not forget the shirt and tie as well. We recommend a black shirt with a perfectly contrasting white tie.

Still there is much more to your look for your gangster fancy dress. You can walk around with a cigar in hand. A fake Cuban would do the trick nicely. Next, don’t forget your face. Yes, even at this level you need to dress up the look. A small, neat, black moustache is the perfect compliment. Add pair of reflecting sunglasses to the gangster fancy dress and you have a perfect, evil and mysterious combination of looks. But, let’s not forget the ladies as well. Yes, even women can dress the part with a matching outfit perhaps with a calf length skirt. The good news is that even though this is a costume that you can put together from the things you have around the house, you can also purchase the fancy dress look from many websites on the web. Go ahead and check it out! Mystery and danger await you!

Why You Need A Great Pair Of Jeans Right Now!

November 23rd, 2007 by Administrator

How many times have you tried to match stripes with spots, because they’re both blue? Maybe you can pull something like that off, but most people can’t - and when you’re on your way to the grocery store, you’re not going to spend an hour finding an outfit to squeeze grapefruit in. You need something fast and reliable, but still looks great - nothing fits that description as well as a great pair of Jeans.

For guys it’s a no brainer - they can be as stylish as a cantaloupe and still put on a pair of jeans with a shirt and look fairly decent as they head out the door. That’s because jeans go with nearly any shirt, and any pair of shoes except loafers with tassels.

As for girls, ever since Brooke Shields slipped on a pair of Calvin Kleins, most guys will agree there is nothing sexier than a girl wearing a great pair of Jeans. When a girl’s got a great pair of jeans, she can wear those jeans with absolutely anything, including loafers with tassels, and look great. Getting them on may be a little tougher, but when they’re on, so is she. She knows it, and so does everyone else. A girl in Jeans is someone you can be just a little more comfortable around, Joke with a little more, and flirt with a little easier. That’s why some girls even describe themselves as a “T-shirt and Jeans kind of girl.” They’re just a bit more genuine and like-able.

But this article isn’t about why you need a pair of jeans right now. It’s about why you need a GREAT pair of jeans right now! What IS a great pair of jeans? That depends partly on you and partly on the jeans.

For guys it can be anything. Some guys wear their jeans about a half inch above their knee, baggy enough to fit 3 people in each leg. That might be great for them, but that’s not going to work for the cowboy wearing a tight pair of wranglers - any Western girl will tell you that.

With girls however, the description of “great” is a bit narrower. I wont define great, but I’ve never heard someone say a girl looked “great!” in a pair of baggy jeans. Fortunately, most girls don’t need to be told. They know how important a great pair of jeans are, and they also know how hard a great pair of jeans can be to find. So when you DO find them - the ones that fit your body just right - don’t let the price tag scare you because if they look THAT good, you’ll wear them all the time, which means you’ll turn heads all the time. And you’ll know right then and there that you need a great pair of jeans right now!

Your Prom Night Essential ‘To Do’ List

October 28th, 2007 by Administrator

In the lead up to a once-in-a-lifetime event like your prom night, it can be easy to forget to organize something. The easiest way to prevent this is to plan ahead. Remember, the day of the prom will be very busy - get as much organized before the day as you possibly can!

Here are some of the things you should organize beforehand so you don’t
accidentally turn one of the greatest nights of your life into a disaster.

Check opening hours - make sure you know when shops, etc that you will have to
visit on the day are open. More than one girl has gone to pick up her dress on the
day of the prom, only to find that the shop doesn’t open on a Saturday!

Research photographs - make sure you get a price list from the school before the
night of the prom, so you know how much photos at the prom will cost (you can
easily spend between $30 and $130 - even more). Check with the photographer
before the night to find out what payment options are available - many will accept
checks or credit cards, which is much safer than carrying cash.

Eat! - it seems like such a simple thing, but remember to eat a good breakfast and
lunch on the day of the prom. You may be rushing around getting things ready, or
feel like you can’t eat, but you will need all the energy you can get for the big night!

Make records - when making your appointments (hair, nails, make-up, restaurant,
limousine, etc) be sure to make a note of the date and time of your call, and who
you spoke to. Make sure you ring to confirm your appointments 2-3 weeks before
the prom, just to be sure that there are no problems.

Prepare for your hair appointment - it may seem obvious, but it is easy to forget.
Remember to wear a button down shirt when you have your hair done.

The right purse - you don’t want to be carrying around a huge purse or handbag all
night. Choose a small purse that is just big enough to hold lipstick, money, an extra
pair of hose, a number of small safety pins, and possibly a camera.

Prom checks - while at the prom, take a bathroom break to do the following:

1)
Refresh lipstick & powder (if needed);

2) Reapply body glitter (especially before a
grand march);

3) Make sure everything is right with your dress; and 4) Hair check.
But don’t take too long to do all this - your date won’t like to be kept waiting!

Have a great time - this is one of the biggest nights of your life, so make sure you
relax and enjoy it! Once you are at the prom, there is no point in worrying about
what you could or should have done. Simply make sure you have a great time

Buying Bespoke Mens Shirts - The Benefits And What To Look For

September 17th, 2007 by Administrator

Bespoke shirt tailoring is undergoing a surge of popularity in the UK as more men realise there are options beyond designer labels. Bespoke tailoring gives the opportunity to specify every aspect of how a shirt is cut, and allows the wearer to experience the feel and look of a perfectly fitted shirt. The following is a guide on what features you should expect from a quality bespoke made mens shirt.

Obviously, the main benefit of a bespoke shirt is that it fits the wearer perfectly; after all, the shirt has been made specifically for the wearer. Signs that a shirt is fitted well are:

* A bespoke mens shirt should not feel tight or appear baggy across the shoulders, chest, stomach, or seat. The cut of the shirt should follow the contours of the body, without being too close or restrictive a fit. A fabric allowance of about 6 inches on the chest body measurement, 5 inches on the stomach measurement, and 6 inches on the seat measurement should give good results with average body dimensions, although these allowances are variable depending on the wearer’s build.

* The sleeves of the shirt should be long enough so that the cuffs do not move up the arm when the arms are raised above the head. Similarly, they should not be so long that when the arms are hanging by the side of the body, there is a significant excess of fabric on the sleeves near to the cuffs.

* The collar of the shirt should leave enough space to insert your thumb comfortably between the collar and the neck when buttoned, and should not feel tight or hang loose around the neck.

* The length of the shirt should be long enough so that the tails hang just below the seat when worn. This will ensure that the shirt does not become untucked during use.

* The cuffs of a bespoke mens shirt should be just too tight to slip over the hand when buttoned. It should be necessary to undo the cuffs when putting on the shirt.

Aside from the fit of the shirt, there are a number of other important features to keep an eye out for:

* Fabrics - A bespoke mens shirt should only ever be constructed from pure cotton fabric. Cotton affords the wearer far greater comfort than man made fibres, and give a classic Jermyn Street look and feel to a shirt. The count of the fabric should be as high as possible - the higher the count, the finer the fabric. Popular fabric weaves include poplin (a plain weave and the classic English shirting), twill (a heavier, diagonal weave), fils-a-fils (a tiny graph paper check that appears to be solid colour from a distance), and oxford (generally, the heaviest weave).

* Collars - The collar should be hand made, and can be either fused or unfused. A well fused collar will give a smooth look with no puckering, and should use cotton interfacing materials. Collars should have removable bones to keep the shape of the wings perfectly straight when inserted.

* Stitching - All stitching throughout the shirt should be single-needle stitching. This technique is more time-consuming than commercial methods, but gives strong seams that are significantly more pucker-resistant.

* Pattern matching - When using striped or patterned fabrics, pattern matching should occur wherever possible.

* Sleeve plackets - Where the sleeves meet the cuffs, traditional packets should be used. Highest quality shirts do not provide placket buttons as these are uneccessary in a well formed placket.

* Split yoke - To ensure a perfect fit across the shoulders, a split (4 piece) yoke should be used.

* Buttons - These should be cross-stitched onto the shirt by hand to ensure that they do not become loose over time.

* Tails - The tails of the shirt should be rounded and strengthened by a gusset.

History of Socks Timeline

August 28th, 2007 by Administrator

Believe it or not socks have been around since the stone ages. They were very different from socks as we know them today. They were often made of animal skins that were tied around the ankles.

In Ancient Egypt there is evidence of the existence of knitted socks and by the 8th century BC, the Greek poet Hesiod wrote of paloi - socks made of matted animal hair. They were mostly worn by actors in comedic plays.

During the Middle Ages colored cloth tied around the legs and held up with garters were in popular use. Garters were placed over the top of the sock/stocking to prevent them from falling down. They were mostly worn among the more wealthy.

In the 1490’s, breeches and hosiery were one piece. They later became known as tights. They were made of colorful silks, wools and velvet. Each leg was often a different color. At the turn of the fifteenth century knitted hose was being worn in France and Scotland.

In the 1590’s knitting machines were created. This made the use of knitted hose more common. With the wearing of tunics hose had to be made longer.

In the 17th century the use of cotton became popular in the making of socks. Early Americans also used wool and silk. Poorer people wore woolen hose usually tan in color. The rich on the other hand wore fine silk hosiery and more colors.

During the 19th century knitting mills allowed hose to be made in America. As men’s pants became longer stockings became shorter until the term was changed to sock and replaced the term stocking. The word sock is derived from the Latin word “soccus” which means light covering of the foot. Women to date wear stockings, tights, or socks.
