A cancer diagnosis brings out many feelings that can’t always be voiced thru words alone. Entries for ‘Lilly Oncology on Canvas : Expressions of a Cancer Journey’ are being accepted thru July 31. This is the second contest presented by Eli Lilly and Company, in association with the Countrywide Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. ‘People influenced by cancer experience a variety of complicated feelings, which are usually complicated to express,’ expounded Dr. Richard Gaynor, vice chairman of cancer research for Lilly. ‘Lilly Oncology on Canvas helps to give these feelings a voice, one which has resonance and meaning.’ Competitors are invited to submit original artworks in the following classes : oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, photography and other ( one-dimensional ) art. An account explaining the artist’s ‘journey’ with cancer should go with the design. Winners will be told in the autumn of 2006. Financial prizes will be given to the carcinoma charities of their choice. All art entered in the contest will be displayed for public viewing at the imperial college of Art in Kensington Gore in London. The world board of judges comprises cancer survivors, oncologists, writers, cancer recommends and artists. More than four hundred works of art from twenty-three nations were entered in the 1st Lilly Oncology on Canvas art competition.
