Dog Hair Shedding - What a Delight!

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

Dog hair shedding is one of those little “add ons” that comes with owning most breeds of dogs. It is usually one of those factors that no one considers when selecting the type of dog they want but which sometimes becomes a major “Arrrgh!” when dog hair starts being noticed all over the house.

So lets be clear - dog hair shedding is a normal physiological occurrence. The volume of
hair shed will likely vary but one can only really consider it to be an abnormal amount
if the shedding is so great that bald patches of skin start appearing.

Dog hair naturally grows in cycles - each hair has a growth phase, followed by a resting phase.
After a while in the resting phase, the hair detaches at its base and is pushed out by a
new hair in the growth phase. The period from the start of a hair growing till it is
pushed out by the next one varies between breeds and between individuals within breeds
and can vary from about 4 months to in excess of 12 months!

Dog hair shedding takes place throughout the year but there are times when an animal
“sheds” its coat. This is governed mainly by the number of daylight hours with lengthening
(spring) and shortening (autumn/fall) daylight hours being the trigger to change the coat and
prepare for summer or winter.Of course this presents a problem to animals primarily kept indoors
and not exposed to the changing hours of light - these animals may shed and grow hair throughout
the year - and hence the hair on furniture, floors etc all year round.

The only real “cure” for normal dog hair shedding is to groom them regularly and remove the
old detached or about to be detached hair from the animal before it removes itself onto
the carpet/chair/floor etc! The frequency with which you will need to do this will vary depending
on the type of haircoat, time of year and the individual. Grooming is not every dog’s favourite activity
(but many love it!), so its best to get them into the habit from an early age.

Do remember that factors such as nutrition, genetics, hormones, climate, parasites and so on
can influence the quality of a dog’s haircoat and need to be taken into account when
considering the cause of excessive dog hair shedding.

What’s in a Greek Wedding?

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

The wedding service in the Greek Orthodox faith is an ancient and beautiful ceremony, which has been celebrated in its current form for centuries. The wedding ceremony is full of symbolism and is a great experience if you have never attended one before, because it is likely to be quite different from other weddings you have attended in Western Europe. The service is also rather unique because the bride and groom do not make vows to each other – their presence together in the church is taken to mean that they are serious about getting married. There are no wedding rehearsals and the ceremony usually has a very relaxed atmosphere - guests take photos whenever they want to and often chat quietly among themselves throughout the ceremony.

The Beginning of the Wedding

In most cases the wedding guests will wait with the groom outside the church until the bride arrives (a few sneaky wedding pros will go into the church early to secure a good seat). In the Summer, when most weddings take place, it is not unusual for ceremonies to be arranged back to back, so the guests attending a marriage will often stand around with those who have just attended the previous wedding are ready to leave. Wedding dress commentators among the crowd will get to consider and discuss at least two brides and maybe even a third as they leave the church – bargain! Meanwhile, the groom waits for the bride at the entrance to the church, often holding her floral bouquet. He hands it to her as they meet and they then go inside together followed by the guests. There is no separation of the guests into guests of the bride and guests of the groom – everyone sits together and in the case of small churches, many people prefer to stand in a spot where they can get a good view of the proceedings.

Service of Betrothal

The wedding ceremony itself is in two parts: the Service of Betrothal and the Ceremony of the Sacrament of Marriage. The exchanging of rings is the focus of the Service of Betrothal. The priest blesses the rings by holding them in his right hand and making the sign of the cross over the heads of the bride and groom. The rings are then placed on the third fingers of their right hands. The Koumbaro, the couple’s religious sponsor, then swaps the rings over between the bride and groom’s fingers, three times. A number of rituals in the ceremony are repeated three times and this symbolises the Holy Trinity: God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Ceremony of the Sacrament of Marriage

This Ceremony consists of several key parts. First, several prayers are said and then as they come to an end, the priest joins the right hands of the bride and groom. Their hands remain joined until the end of the wedding ceremony, which symbolises the couple’s union.

The Crowning

The bride and groom are crowned with thin crowns, or stefana, which are joined by a white ribbon and have been blessed by the priest. The crowns symbolise the glory and honour that is being bestowed on them by God, and the the ribbon symbolises their unity. The koumbaro then exchanges the crowns between the heads of the couple, three times.

The Common Cup

The crowning is followed by a reading of the Gospel, which tells of the marriage of Cana at Galilee. It was at this wedding that Jesus performed his first miracle, changing water into wine, which was then given to the married couple. Wine is given to the couple and they each drink from it three times.

The Ceremonial Walk

The priest the leads the couple, who are still wearing their stefana, three times around the altar on their first steps as a married couple. The Koumbaro follows close behind the couple holding the stefana place. At this point the couple (and anyone standing nearby) is usually showered with rice, which was earlier handed out to the wedding guests. The priest will often make use of the bible he is holding to give himself some protection!

The Removal of the Crowns

When the Ceremonial Walk has ended, the priest blesses the couple, the crowns are removed and he then separates their previously joined hands with the bible, reminding them that only God can break the union which they have just entered into.

Wedding traditions

Unfortunately, a lot of the information available on Greek Orthodox wedding traditions is a little outdated and contains generalisations that give the impression that certain traditions are followed by everyone who gets married. Some of these traditions are set out below.

  • The baking of bread and cakes containing coins.

  • Rolling a baby on the marital bed to encourage fertility.

  • The throwing of money onto the marital bed.

  • The pinning of money onto the bride (and sometimes also the groom) at the wedding reception.

Although these rituals are seen as traditional, fewer and fewer young people marrying today are following them, because they are seen as old-fashioned. Many people do not wish to put their guests through the ordeal of other people being able to see how much money they pin on the bride, for example. Although money is still a very common, as well as practical, wedding present it is often given to the couple before the wedding day or to a third person at the wedding reception, for safe-keeping. Greeks living in the more remote parts of Greece and abroad, who will naturally feel more strongly about doing things the traditional way, are more likely to follow these traditions than those living in Athens, for example. Like weddings in many places, Greek weddings are changing. At the time of writing, there is a growing fashion to go and get married on an island and I recently heard someone say that he was looking into getting married in a ski resort. He was wisely advised by a friend: “You had better first ask the priest if he wants to perform a marriage up a mountain”!

How is the Weekly Spot Uranium Price Calculated?

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

Trading in the uranium market is done by a very small number of players. After all, there are about 440 nuclear reactors worldwide, a few dozen trading firms, fuel managers, and a relatively small number of utilities who participate in the actual buying of uranium. It’s the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle. Without it, nuclear reactors shut down. The uranium price has been skyrocketing since Christmas week 2000, with no end in sight. Forecasts range from $50/pound to well above $100/pound. Few believe the spot uranium price will go lower in the near future.

It’s become a fun game. Every Tuesday night (Monday afternoon, if you are a subscriber to the Ux Consulting), you will see the spot uranium price posted on the company’s front webpage. Moments later, the Yahoo and other Internet chat boards light up with commentary about the current uranium price and where it might head next. The spoiler is that TradeTech LLC issues its spot uranium price on Friday to subscribers and to the general public on Sunday night. Investors have been betting on the price swings of their favorite junior uranium stocks (more leverage, more risk/reward) by trying to second-guess the uranium spot price. Now, you can find out exactly how Ux C arrives at their weekly spot uranium price, from the president of Ux C, himself: Jeff Combs.

StockInterview: How does Ux Consulting arrive at your weekly spot uranium price?

Jeff Combs: We have a pretty specific definition. What we’re looking for is the lowest offer of which we are aware, at around the time we publish the price. The quantity being offered has to meet certain parameters. It has to be a certain size transaction within a certain timeframe. So we’re not really trying to cover transactions, per se. Obviously, where there is a transaction that takes place, there’s an offer embodied in that. We’re really trying to capture where the market is going based on current offers, rather than where it has been.

StockInterview: So is your published spot price more of a predictor than an actual trade?

Jeff Combs: It’s a predictor only in the sense that the next deal is likely to be done at the lowest offer price if the market is working efficiently. It’s like in the stock market where the lowest offer price will be taken first, although the stock market is a lot more efficient than the uranium market. Thus, we aren’t predicting the price of the next deal per se, but reporting the lowest offer price, which is an indication of where the sell side of the market is at that point in time.

StockInterview: So the weekly published spot uranium price is not based upon an actual sale of uranium that took place that past week?

Jeff Combs: Since it’s more of a forward-looking concept, the sale – that is, the coming together of buyer and seller - hasn’t necessarily taken place. But the level of the lowest offer indicates where the market is at that point in time. The sale itself shouldn’t deviate much, if any, from the offer price. This is especially true in a sellers’ market, where buyers don’t have much negotiating power. But it’s also true in a buyers’ market, as sellers are looking to offer an attractive enough price to encourage the buyer to take the material.

Asian Girls: Will Your Asian Love Stand the Test of Time?

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

Asian girls dating has really evolved over the past two decades due to the fact that the younger Asian generations have had the chance to grow up in multicultural communities, allowing them to interact and make friends with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Although this has provided Asian girls with a different perspective and fewer prejudices, in most cases their parents and grandparents disapprove of their children mingling with others, whom they consider to be “not like them”.

This ever rising diversity in culture can often leave older generations feeling defensive and fearful over the loss of their own cultural traditions and values, if their children choose to seek an intimate relationship with someone of a different ethnic background.

Some people also fear that if their children begin to join with those from different races, their individual ethnic community will begin to shrink, while others are simply afraid of what they do not understand.

If you are someone who is interested in seeking an Asian girl, you need to understand that there are potential challenges that await you and your date.

You can be sure that there will always be those who disapprove of interracial mixing, and that being the case, you should prepare yourself for shocked or negative reactions that you may experience from certain public places, and perhaps from yours or your date’s family, relatives and maybe even your friends.

Since interracial dating differs for every individual, what may be an easy experience for someone else, could prove to be more of a challenge for you depending on your family situation;

therefore, one of the best ways for you to meet someone is to join an online dating community, where you can safely meet and chat with a variety of Asian girls.

You need not concern yourself about criticisms or disapprovals. No one will judge you, and you will discover that the Asian girls you meet are exactly like you – interested in dating, being themselves and having fun.

You don’t need to limit yourself to your own culture when it comes to dating, and you shouldn’t let anyone but yourself decide who you should date and love.

Because when it comes down to it, the only opinion that should matter to you more than your own is your Asian girl.

RSS Feeds Can Increase Your Sales

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

RSS feeds are reshaping how we access information online. In the past, when you wanted to know when your favorite information site had some new information on it, you had to go visit the website, wait for it to load, get distracted, etc. With the growing popularity of RSS feeds however, this is no longer necessary.

One ingenious use of RSS feeds is to get your customers to subscribe to an RSS feed on the latest products you offer. The latest sales for the month, news related to the products and services you offer and more. Using an RSS feed, a customer can know exactly when you post new information online without wasting time or having to wade through information that they aren’t interested in. Keeping yourself in front of your customer will result in more sales.

An RSS feed for your coupons

FindSavings.com for instance offers their visitors the ability to subscribe to RSS Feeds for coupon deals being offered by the favorite brand name stores. Whenever a new sale or rebate is posted, the customer is notified via their RSS news aggregator, their browser or their online reader. Getting the sale into the hands of the customer right away increases the chance that a sale is made.

RSS feeds bypass nasty spam filters

Every day it seems that email spam is growing. It has gotten so bad that the usefulness of email as a communication medium has been greatly compromised. Because of this volume of spam, as much as 85% of your email messages may not get through to your customers. Using RSS feeds, you can achieve 100% delivery effectively bypassing traditional spam filters.

RSS gives your customers exactly what they want

RSS feeds can be created on very specific topics. Like a laser beam, they can be aimed to give information on very specific niches. Narrowing the focus of a feed will generally increase the usefulness of the feed to the customer. It also increases the customers interest and trust in what the feed offers to them. All of this will result in more sales.

Want to us RSS feeds to increase your sales? Give your customers the information that they want and crave and your bottom line will thank them.

Selling on eBay: Customer Service Strategies

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

Let’s see how customer service is important on eBay.

Buyers rate their satisfaction with sellers, and your rating can
make a difference on whether potential customers are willing to
buy from you. The rating is like a business building tool on
eBay.

However, to get good rating, you might want to consider a few
strategies to service your customers beyond their expectations.
That will guarantee satisfied customers whether they buy and
keep your products or they buy and return the products back to
you because of any particular reasons.

Here are a few strategies you can adopt.

Strategy #1:

Start by providing an accurate product description. Displaying
clear pictures and describing any imperfection shows the buyer
what to expect. It’s much better for customer satisfaction if
the buyer receives a product in better shape than he expected
than if you oversell and disappoint your customer.

Strategy #2:

Include acknowledgement of the winning bid and prompt shipping
information. Use an automated response to let the buyer know you
have received his bid. Acknowledge payment quickly. Ship
immediately, and inform the customer when the product is
shipped. Customer service strategies include providing a
tracking link to the product whenever possible.

Strategy #3:

Offer free shipping. If you charge for shipping, don’t charge
much above shipping costs. Customers notice the postage cost and
will likely complain if the shipping and handling is several
dollars over. They understand the cost of materials, but they
don’t want to pay for your time to package the product.

Strategy #4:

Include a return policy. It is worth it to accept returns any
time a customer asks. You can probably resell the item, and
receiving a good rating is worth the cost and hassle.

Customer service strategies on eBay are not any different than
traditional online stores. Make sure the product is as good as
you say it is, don’t inflate shipping and handling, ship
quickly, and have a liberal return policy. This is the way to
achieve high customer service ratings.

It is also a path for you to sell more on eBay. Try some of
these strategies yourself.

Cheney is No Straight Shooter

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

The story about the Cheney hunting mishap is it is a story at all. The irony is it is a story at all because Team Cheney decided to control it as if it were not a story. Now that’s some convoluted thinking; as true as it may be. Considering the VP’s revelation to Team Fair and Balanced during a well controlled “press interview” that all he cared about was the human story by taking the time to let the birdshot settle so to speak, it is amazing just how much Team Cheney spun wrong when finally given the chance.

All I’m able to do at this point is shake my head in wonderment. If I had any question before that Cheney might not be a straight shooter, I’m certain of it now.

They had at least eighteen hours to get it right the first time. And they blew it big time.

For instance:

Why was the injury initially reported as if it were “just a flesh wound—a nuisance really” when apparently the nuisance was that pesky pellet lodged playfully near the heart?

Why was the initial report of a “minor heart attack while he slept peacefully” released as an “oh by the way”, leaving us to conjecture it was the innocent doing of a 78 year old organ when it was really caused by that wily wascal resting on the heart?

Why did Team Cheney initially report it was Whittington’s fault when it clearly was not?

Why were we told he was thirty yards away, when most experts claim he had to be within 12 feet for birdshot to penetrate that deeply into the body?

Why did Team Cheney release a talking point to Red State Rush, White House Hannity and the rest, to deflect attention by vilifying former VP Al Gore’s “treasonous” comments made in Saudi Arabia when they neglected to point out Al also challenged the Middle East countries to rise up, be accountable and denounce Iran’s dangerous pursuit of nuclear capability?

Team Cheney sure did get a lot wrong considering their concern for getting it right. However, if they achieved one thing, it might be that it is unlikely the truth will ever be known, lacking someone breaking the hunter’s code of silence by coming forward with some facts.

So I, for one, am left wondering why the spin machine was fired up for something that on the surface seemed rather innocuous, barring the poor man should die or something. Was there a little alcohol involved? Who were the “friends”, sometimes referred to as “good friends”, sometimes as “just acquaintances”, and what were they chatting about, “Project Runway”? What was it that needed to be discreet? Were they cross dressing or something?

My guess—since that is all I’m left with—is that it was a horrific moment for all involved. By Dick Cheney’s own admission, Whittington went down like a ton of bricks and he was bleeding. I don’t know about you, but I’m with the VP on this one. That is a bad thing. I probably would have thrown up on the poor bastard. But at the end of the day it was an accident, right? Things happen, right? Okay, so the late night hosts and “The Daily Show” are going to have a good week but so be it. That’s the punishment public figures must endure when public figures do dumb things; just ask Pee Wee Herman.

It just seems to me that all Team Cheney had to do was immediately release something to the press that essentially said, “earlier today the Vice President accidentally shot a fellow hunter who is currently being treated at the local hospital and until we are certain of the seriousness of the injuries have nothing further to offer”.

Is that so tough to do? It would be all over except the chuckles and laughs.

But no! Team Cheney’s penchant for situational control and disdain of the “biased” press made this the story it really wasn’t. Team Cheney truly is the gang that can’t shoot straight.

Now I’m left to wonder, if they intentionally mislead me on the little stuff, what about the big stuff like wiretapping, CIA outings, global warming, the Iraq war, terrorism, or anything else for that matter?

The fact is I have always felt uneasy about Dick Cheney, that he has something up his gun vest sleeve with his undisclosed locations and all, like he’s Batman or something. And I am tired of it. And while I’m at it, I’m tired of the President too. And I’m tired of Howard Dean. I’m tired of the mudslinging, divisiveness, and spin on Capitol Hill. Even McCain and Obama can’t seem to stay clear of the crap. I’m sick of the whole thing. Sick of it! And it is humanity that suffers, the very thing Team Cheney seemed so concerned about.

Which reminds me; I do hope Mr. Whittington recovers fully.

Analyze Your Trading System

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

I’m going to share with you some of the factors that I examine when I am testing and analyzing potential new trading systems. First, you might be wondering what I use when developing new systems. There are a variety of different software packages available, but I use TradeStation most of the time. The graphic below shows a TradeStation summary of a system that is being tested. You can refer to that throughout this article for the different factors we will discuss.

If you do not want to pay for a software package, advanced users in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel could import data from Yahoo! Finance or some other data vendor and set up data tables to simulate trading. That works just as well as sophisticated software packages but is much more time-consuming and difficult to set up.

The Time Period you choose is important because you want to analyze your system during a variety of market conditions. I usually choose to start somewhere around January 1998 and test all the way to the current date for my systems. This way your system will be tested in strong up years, strong down years and several years that moved relatively less.

Net Profit is probably the first thing most traders look at when they develop a system. Unfortunately, some traders only look at their net profit, and that is why I am writing this article. Net profit is important, of course, but not necessarily the most important factor. A system might have a huge net profit, but if all that profit was made in a couple large trades during 1999 or 2002, that is not a good system. What you want to make sure you develop is a system that works consistently well in all market conditions.

Total Trades and Trade Length are important so you know for sure that your system will work well with what you are trading and again you also want to look for consistency. If you are developing a swing trading system for stocks you will probably want a few dozen trades per year that meet your conditions and most of the trades taking anywhere from 2 to 14 days. If you’re going to be trading something else then those conditions will be different.

Another important factor in your new trading system is Percent Profitable. Of course we would naturally assume that the system that has the highest number of profitable trades would be the best. That is not always true though. This is where Win/Loss Ratio (average winning trade divided by average loosing trade) comes in. You may have a high percentage of profitable trades but the average loss might be much higher then your average gain. I have seen systems that have as many as 85% of their trades showing a profit, but if that same system has a Win/Loss Ratio of 0.50, that is their losses are on average twice as big as their wins, you still may not be able to make any money with this system. However there are also systems that may only be right 30% of the time but when they’re right they’re right by a lot and may have a high Win/Loss Ratio of 4.5 or greater and that you might actually be able to make money with. In general though, most good trading systems have a greater then 50% Percent Profitable and a great then 2.0 Win/Loss Ratio.

The final factor that we are going to examine is the Equity Curve. This is the ultimate test of a consistent trading system. The Equity Curve is simply a graph that shows the total profit or loss after each trade. The line of a good Equity Curve should steadily increase from the left side of the chart to the right. This shows that the system is making consistent profits in all market conditions. Bad systems, even ones who are winners in the end will have wild fluxations in their Equity Curve, having huge increases and decreases for long periods of time or periods of no movement at all.

Debt Consolidation Loans Without Owning a Home - Free Debt Consolidation

September 30th, 2007 by Administrator

Homeownership is not required for a debt consolidation. There are many ways to combine debts and become debt free in three to seven years. In some instances, it is easier for homeowners. Because of their home’s equity, they have the option of acquiring home equity loans or cash-out refinancing which puts extra cash in their pockets. Fortunately, there are also ways to consolidate debts without owning a home.

Get Approved for a Secured Personal Loan

Banks regularly offer debt consolidation loans. If you do not own a home, it may be possible to get approved for a personal loan using some sort of collateral. Collateral is used as security for the loan. Thus, if you fail to repay the lender, they have the power to claim your item. Collateral can consist of any valuable piece of property (electronics, jewelry, vehicle title, etc.)

Non-Profit Debt Consolidation Agency

Debt consolidation agencies are perfect for non-homeowners. These agencies are very useful because they have the ability to negotiate better interest rates and convince creditors to waive late fees and over-the-limit fees.

Once the negotiations have concluded, debt management agencies combine debts. Each month, payments are submitted to the agency. Debt consolidation or management agencies do not payoff debts, they manage the payments. To avoid paying a monthly or one-time service fee, choose a non-profit debt consolidation service.

Because of the variety of debt consolidation agencies, it is wise to request online quotes before selecting a company. Quotes entail a representative from the agency reviewing your debts, and remitting estimated monthly payments and estimated payoff time. Be aware that agencies have specific requirements. Some debt consolidation agencies will not offer help to people who are able to manage their own debts. Thus, qualified applicants must have a large debt amount, and accounts that are at least 30 days past due.

Credit Card Balance Transfer

If you have a good credit history, another option for quickly reducing debts involves applying for a credit card balance transfer with a low introductory rate. The average credit card has an interest rate of 18%. With a balance transfer option, multiple credit card balances are combined at a low rate, which makes reducing the debt much easier.
